A perfectly acceptable "cheapie". What do you expect in Amsterdam at that price? It's one saving grace was that it was non-smoking, and pretty well enforced. The staff was very helplful, breakfast was simple but actually decent (fresh/warm hard boiled eggs, fresh bread/toast, decent coffee, tea, decent orange juice) and despite how prison-ration-like that sounds, ironically I found it better than many of the American business hotel "continental breakfasts" I've had in my many business travels (in America, continental breakfast usually means stale muffins, bagels, OJ, and bad coffee)
The location was good if you like being fairly close to the museums, (and walking distance to the Heineken brewery to take the tour there) less than ideal if you like being close to the old town center -- a very long (20-30min) walk. We used a tram every day. The area was quiet, however, and the hotel was pretty quiet inside. (no late night partying)
The room was a bit smelly -- nothing our air freshener didn't quickly fix. The furniture was very cheap and a bit dirty, decent comfort on the bed. We had a "suite" with our own bathroom. It was convenient, with kitchenette, iron, stove, sink, tv. Noisy plumbing (we bring ear plugs and eyeshades on all trips).
Next time we're in Amsterdam, we''ll probably pay double or more and get a very nice hotel maybe near town center. Why not treat yourself a bit in this cool town? But if I had to, I'd probably stay here again.
