“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Stopped here for 3 nights mid Dec. We were on the first floor. The room was small but that is expected in Amsterdam. It was decoated beautifully and was very clean. The windows had electric shutters which blocked all sound out we slept in every day as it was so dark. Free WiFi which was great, the tv was a good size.
When we arrived the staff were on their Christmas party and had a friend on reception who was very welcoming and carried our suitcase upstairs!
The location is very good midway between all the musuems and dam square. Rembrandtplein is about a 30 second walk and the flower market is very close by.
Would definately recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Thank you so much for your nice review, and you hit it at the right place, early December we have invested to place in all the rooms facing the back of the hotel “SHUTTERS” The main reason we did this was to avoid noise from neighboring restaurants and bars. Due to the absolute City Centre location of Amstelzicht some guest in the past experienced some disturbance by the noises during the night, now by closing the shutters and the windows there is a 80% noise reduction, which promise a good night rest to all our guest. An extra plus is indeed that the rooms become total dark when closing the shutters, which make you want to sleep in every morning….. but remember you in Amsterdam, a city the has many things to see and do, better wake up early to take most advance of the days while in Amsterdam.

( We like your profile name....."Iliveforholidays"..... )

Best Regards,

Robert

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here in December 2013. I chose this hotel after weeks of searching online for a good value, yet stylish hotel. We were not disappointed!

We were very late for check in due to a flight diversion but the staff were extremely accommodating and were very helpful by supplying us with a map and ideas on where to go throughout our stay which we really appreciated as it was so late at night!

We stayed in the souterrain room. We were really surprised at how spacious it was! The room was decorated beautifully and we believed it to be great value. It was very warm and comfortable which we appreciated after a long day walking around in cold Amsterdam winter weather! The only things I would note is that the stairs to the souterrain room are quite steep and would not suit everyone. They were however not a problem for us. Also at the weekend it did get a little noisy outside the room but it wasn't at a level that disturbed our sleep. The room was serviced for us each day which was nice!

The hotel itself was stylish and was perfectly situated to walk to everywhere. It was close to everything you could need - The flower market, restaurants, shopping areas, museums etc.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again!

Room Tip: The souterrain room is very spacious. It did however have steep stairs and some street noise from th...

We booked the quad from for a short stay in Amsterdam. The hotel is very cute and historic. Great friendly staff. We arrived a lot earlier then the check in time and they did their best to accommodate, gave us coffee, stored our bags and made a room avail a little early. The room was clean and updated. But the main bed was two twin beds pushed together. In the other room were in-wall bunk beds. But we still loved it. Free wifi, worked great and in a perfect location. 20 min walk to Amsterdam sign, right behind the hotel is restaurants shopping and clubs. Red light district is about 10 min. Anne Frank house also about 10 min.

Now the downside. The hotel shuts down at night. We came in from the bars and no working heater, the phone to the room was not working and didn't have any way to get ahold of anyone for assistance. Also had to check out at 4am and again, no one was available.
Overall I enjoyed my stay. Wish the room wasn't freezing. I'd probably stay again in the summer time.

Dear Melissa, Thank you for your nice review, and we are very happy you enjoyed your stay at Amstelzicht. The Quadrooms who are located in our annex building have been just remodeled, and upgraded. Quad rooms existing out of two bedrooms with a bathroom in the middle, we have added an extra TV, so both rooms have a TV, as well we have tried to make some noise isolations to avoid noise from nearby restaurants and bars. Compare to the standard 4 persons rooms in Amsterdam, which consist of 4 single beds in one row, we believe that this rooms are comfortable and give some privacy when traveling as two couples, a family with 2 children, or just friends.
Indeed the reception is not available between 10 PM and 8 AM, all our guest suppose to know this by making a reservation, All internet sites are providing our correct information including our opening hours. However between 10 PM and 8 AM of course there is always a security employee available at the hotel for any emergencies, who can be reached by in room telephone. Check in after 10 PM is never a problem, as long as the Hotel is informed about the late arrival. Early check out is not a problem either, just arrange everything the day before check out with the reception. As in your case the telephone was not working we which to be informed during your stay, we checked it today as soon as we saw your review, and its working correctly.
When coming back in summer please be reminded we don’t have air-conditioning in the rooms 
Looking forward to welcome you, or maybe see you before in San Fransisco, a city we like very much!

Regards, Robert

Absolutely loved my stay in Amsterdam, but the value provided by the Amstelzicht did not quite contribute to this experience. The building itself is authentic and well-kept which gives a good impression. The room we got on the second floor was quit small for two people which suitcases, the staircase is horrendously steep.
The real downsides of this hotel were:
- lack of 24h reception (7am-10pm). We had problems entering the locked front door every time as the magnetic lock was faulty. Had to dial the security person, who was unhelpful and wouldn't let us in straight away.
- no radiator in the bathroom, it was absolutely freezing. We were told by the receptionist to open to the bedroom so it could get warm! After a long discussion we managed to get a heater.
Overall not what you expect for this sort of price.

We booked two quad rooms for a girls weekend in Amsterdam. The hotel has great location which is 15 minute walk to the shops/ Central station and very close the restaurants and bars on Rembrandtplein square.

Our rooms were in a separate building from the main hotel but were a great size, modern and clean. We had our own entrance and each room had a TV, ipod dock and fridge. The stairs are VERY steep which can be challenging to get your bags to the room but we felt it added to the Dutch charm of the building. The staff were polite and helpful, and we were able to store our bags at the hotel before and after check-in.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your stay and your review posting. You have very well defined our excellent Quad rooms. We are equally glad that all aspects of your visit were very satisfactory. The characteristic Amsterdam stairway are indeed steep, but part of the monumental house. We are glad you enjoyed it as a Dutch charm.

We hope to welcome you again in the near future. With best regards,

I have just returned from an amazing weekend with friends in Amsterdam.

We stayed at Hotel Amstelzicht in 2 quad rooms and a twin.

We arrived in Amsterdam early. First impressions of the hotel were really good. The reception area was clean and spacious. The receptionist was very friendly. Our quad room was not due to be ready until 5pm, but the staff were more than happy to allow us to leave our luggage with them whilst we explored the city. The staff were extremely helpful and were there to help us with our luggage down the characteristically steep stairs of Amsterdam!

When we returned to the hotel at 5pm, we were helped with our luggage to our rooms. Our quad rooms were in a separate building, which was brilliant for us. The quad rooms were up a couple of flights of steep stairs, which was superb for our thighs and working off all of the delicious foods available in the city! The rooms were clean, spacious and functional. There was a large living area which consisted of a t.v., a fridge, safe, sitting area and a set of bunk beds. The bathroom was clean and worked well for a group of 4 girls. There were twin beds in a separate room. The beds were very comfortable, we all slept well and had a nap each day too!

The hotel is in a fantastic position, directly on one of the canals. There were plenty of bars, clubs and food establishments within walking distance. The attractions were also close by foot, tram or bike.

Our flight on our last day was not until late, the hotel, again, were happy for us to leave our luggage with them. The manager/owner came to see us to make sure that we had an enjoyable stay, which we had.

The price was an absolute bargain for the quality and position of this hotel.

I would highly recommend this hotel to all able bodied people wanting to stay close to the heart of the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam.

I am looking forward to returning with my fiance for a romantic weekend!

We just returned from 5 nights at the Hotel Amstelzicht and we were very pleased with our stay. The hotel is very clean and the triple room we stayed in was very comfortable. It is in a fantastic location right in front of Rembrandtplein and within easy walking distance (max 15-20 minutes) to all the major attractions.

We were downstairs and while we did hear a bit of noise from construction next door and the clubs behind us but it wasn't terrible or impossible to sleep.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and went out of their way to help us, particularly when our daughter wasn't feeling well. Their thoughtfulness was very much appreciated and unexpected. We were all sorry to leave at the end of our stay!

Room Tip: The downstairs are very narrow and may be difficult to access. Also, I think the upstairs rooms wou...
