Warm and friendly receptionist. Location is great - on the edge of the Leidsplein and the museum district - so whatever takes your fancy! Easy walking distance to most places.
We asked for a quiet room (wouldn't want ground floor rooms near bar or lifts) and although we were at the front on the first floor (rm 20), it is a quiet street and we slept soundly.
Rooms size was fine for us - not sure it required three tv's tho!
Lovely, small fireside lounging area for afternoon tea and cakes (complimentary) and the complimentary bar in the eve - which includes free side bowls of salads, canapes etc - was a lovely touch to set you up for an evening out.
Room service was a bit shoddy I must admit, but rooms were very clean (they just left dirty glasses both days and the bed was a bit of a mess after the turn down service!). Overall, found the hotel very pleasant - clean, modern, friendly and great location and would stay again. You do however, have to get up early (I mean 9-10ish - not 10-11ish) for breakfast otherwise you will have to wait for tables as there are very few places to accommodate everyone.
Take the hop on/off canal cruise (36euros for 24hrs), be prepared for a 2 hour queue even in winter for a visit to Anne Franks house and take a stroll down the 9 Streets for chic and independent shopping.

Take the train from the airport (8 an hour) to the Central Station and a short 12euro taxi ride will get you to the hotel. We uses our canal cruise ticket to take us back to the station in the evening – lovely ride at night time.

A boutique hotel about a 5 minute walk from Liedseplein which is a happening square. The hotel is definitely small - just as the other reviews mention - but even after expecting a small room I was slightly shocked. You could only fit one person on either side of the bed. There's not much room for luggage and moving about if you're sharing the room with another. The bathroom was pretty tight as well. But the good side is that the room was immaculate - crisp linen, feather comforter, fluffy pillows. The bathroom had a tv so you could enjoy the news while showering. This is an all inclusive hotel which meant that the drinks were free in the minibar and so was breakfast. Breakfast was da-lish! We ordered dutch pancakes every morning. The dutch really know their pancakes. But you may have to wait to get a table, as one reviewer mentioned, since this is a small hotel. And sometimes you have to wait for the front door to be opened as they don't just allow you to walk in. You have to be buzzed in which is nice for security but a pain in the *** when its freezing out and there's no one at the front desk to let you in. Overall, you'll enjoy it. We did!

The good part is the location, new rooms and relatively freindly stuff.
But, there are too many buts for this hotel:
1. Rooms are very very small, even though I order the executive rooms
2. It is a butique hotel. it means you will wait for breakfast, sometimes wait outside till someone will come to the reception and open the door, etc.
3. When we checked in, there was a half empty bottle of water in the mini bar (!!)
4. When we checked out, I asked to pay in 3 payments (trust me, with the bill you will need it ;-)). they said ok, i signed 3 times, and when i got back home i saw that all payments were taken immedately... <G>. when i called they say there is no policy of payments....

Too much money for this hotel.

I was staying at Hotel Roemer during x'mas. Unfortunately, I had to be on my own for one day but the hotel staff made me feel very secure and welcome. The hotel is small but lovely. I booked a double room, it is quite small but it's clean and functional. The location is ok about 5 minutes walk or less from the tram stop (Leidseplein) you can take route 1,2 or 5 and the hotel is more or less on the road behind Mariott. From there you can walk to Rijks museum, Vondel park and many more. Overall, the experience at Hotel Roemer is quite enjoyable and I would definitely return there if I have a chance.
