Stayed at this hotel for a weekend as they offered a very good deal.
Was not really impressed by anything except the location. Just next to Leidesplein.
Rooms are ok size and clean.
Breakfast did not offer much - 20 € is not money well spent.
Only one elevator for all floors - lots of waiting..
What bothered me the most was the poor information about airport connection.. There us a bus (197) just outside which takes you to the airport in 30 minutes....but that did not seemed to be known by either the staff nor the website responsible....

I stayed in this hotel for the second time in July 2012 while on another business trip to Amsterdam.
When I arrived at the reception ready to check in the girl told me there was a problem.
When I asked what the problem was, she told me that the hotel was fully booked.
Before I could utter a word, the lady cheekingly asked me if I would mind getting a free upgrade to a superior room...
Of course I did not mind - I did not mind at all.
The superior rooms are located on the fifth floor of the hotel and my room was great.
It had a ginormous bed, a spotless and big bathroom and I even had a small tv corner.
The room itself was very spacious too and very clean.
NH hotels always appeal to me because of their design and this one did not disappoint me either.
The bed itself was very comfy and I had a great night sleep in it.
When I woke up the next morning, I had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant.
Breakfast is very varied and there's something for everyone : hot and cold dishes, pastries, cereals, fresh fruit and a variety of cold and hot drinks.
Check out went really quickly too and the staff was again very helpful and friendly.
I will be staying here again in a couple of days and I'm already looking forward to it !

Stayed here couple of times on business visits. There are many better hotels available at the price point however I chose this hotel a few times for two reasons primarily - they have smoking rooms available and also the location is pretty good.

The rooms are pretty comfortable with really old bulky TVs. The service is adequate, no reason for complaints. In fact, much of the hotel is quite simply adequate, there is nothing too special neither is there much to complain about except that its a bit old.

I would go again if I found a good deal.

Faded…that’s the best word to describe this hotel. Or, if you have three words, maybe faded, friendly incompetence.

I’ve stayed here several times before for business and pleasure, the last time in 2005. I liked the location, the room décor was modern and service was good. Each time, however, including this visit, the lobby’s odd smell is initially off-putting.

When you check into the hotel, they enclose your room key in a folder that says, “Details are what make a good hotel.”

Here are some details. The carpets are filthy and worn. Heavy-traffic areas (and where in a hotel aren't there many places like this?) have scratches and dings in the walls up to the waist area. The Ikea-brown finish on nearly every piece of room furniture is chipped, scratched and damaged. Our room was dirty on check-in with paper on the floor. We asked for extra towels, went out to dinner and when we returned, they’d removed ALL the towels and bathmat, except for two hand towels. At check-out, they wanted to charge me not just the Amsterdam city tax, but the entire amount despite us having pre-paid for the room. Why? The front-desk staff doesn’t know how to use their internal systems to apply a pre-paid booking to a customer bill.

The “free” WiFi deserves special derision. The NH chain must have made a decision in 2003 to go to with one of those old-school, charge-the-bejesus-out-of-the-guests telecom-provided WiFi systems, in this case from Swisscomm. You must sit in the odiferous lobby to use the free WiFi which requires login every 30 minutes and is unbelievably slow. The one redeeming value of this system is that one can print documents like boarding passes by uploading them to Swisscomm. Just don’t ask the front desk staff where the printers physically are. Even the cabbie who took us to Schipol complained that the staff often calls him asking where he is for a pickup when they’ve not called him in advance to book the trip.

We made our issues known and were comped breakfast for two of our three nights there. My advice is don’t pay for the food at this hotel. The buffet – adjacent to the foul-smelling lobby – offers little choice. And the food is decidedly unappetizing. I tried a small waffle. It was so hard that inserting my fork into it caused it to disintegrate into powder right on the plate.

Plusses? With the lights low to hide the damage to the furnishing and the beds nicely made, you can still see the charm this hotel had in the early 2000s. It’s air-conditioned. And it has one of the very best locations in central Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard to avoid the noise from the busy street next to the hotel.

The NH Amsterdam Centre is a clean and basic hotel. Their decor is modern however you can feel the IKEA'ness of the furniture including the bed. Although our room had a big footprint, the way they design the curtains, they set them somewhat far away from the windows which make the room smaller. The staff was attentive but not efficient. The location was central to is surrounding areas and easy walking distance from the Center of town. The main reason why I gave this hotel 3 stars is because of its bed, it was uncomfortable and felt like I was sleeping on a bad futon / sponge bed (the bed i sleep in is most important for me...). We did not try the restaurant but did have drinks in the lounge. The staff at their bar was attentive. Last but not least they really need to update their TV's, specially since you can buy a flat screen TV for under $200 dollars.
