We found this hotel above average. rooms were clean and relatively large for any European hotel. we were staying on the third floor and yes there are a few stairs but its Europe!! reception staff were friendly and more than willing to help. hotel has free wi-fi which was great. really good location - short walk to supermarket and restaurants, tram line to city centre less than 2 minutes walk away. no noise from pub below at all, even with window open all night. would stay here again.

Stayed one night in this hotel , terrible , the room was smelly and in a poor state of decoration . I also did not find the price at all budget, especially considering how poor the accommodation is. I am not fussy ,it really is bad!

Not sure where other people stayed... i don't think it was Hotel Plantage... The guys in the reception couldn't have been nicer. Check-in was at 2 but we got there at about 11am... We were just going to drop our bags and run but the guy said our room could be ready in about 10 mins. So we paid what was due PLUS CITY TAX of 5%... This is not included in the price of Amsterdam hotels and whatever website you booked through should have informed you of this. We got a printed receipt so maybe you should ask for one if it's that much of a problem. While waiting the guy gave us €1 each for a coffee/soft drink and we checked our emails on the free internet. At no point thriughout the whole stay did anyone in reception smoke anything. When the room was ready we went up to the top floor and dropped our stuff. Sure the stairs are steep but so are ALL THE STAIRS IN THE CITY!!! IT'S AMSTERDAM!!! Try any other hotel and you'll experience exactly the same thing. If you want an elevator then DON'T GO TO AMSTERDAM!!! We had the small twin attic room on the top floor, my only complaint would be the same as i saw in a previous review... the drain in the toilet really smelt! EW! We were told if we wanted the room cleaned to inform staff before 12pm on the day but we only stayed 3 nights so we didn't require new towels etc. The free internet was mostly always free, you receive a key to come and go as you please, the bar below is SO NOT ROWDY! We went in and it was a nice quiet restaurant. Not too far out from all the action, about a 10min walk or probably a 2min tram ride. We had a big window we kept open most of the time. This is a fine place to stay, and we had the smell of poo to deal with throughout most our stay (don't stay in the small twin attic room!)

This was one of the wost hotels we stayed at. The staff was the most threatening, rude, and criminal minded. He took more money from us that was agreed with Hotels.com and did not provide a receipt. He was taking advantage of several customers that were white Americans, I think. Room was not clean, straight out of a junk yard set-up, winding stairs made it impossible to get the luggage up to the rooms and no help with it either from the hotel staff, bed sheets were dirty as if some had used them before we got there and had urine spots, carpet was infected with mold and bugs, red bed bugs were under the sheets and in the mattress, entire hotel was filled with smoke, no a/c and no windows in the room, absolutely unsafe location due to a hoodlum bar underneath the hotel, and building design, if you are a women or with a women definitely do not stay here, and staff was always smoking joint and cigarettes. It is better to stay in any hotel than this one because no other place could be any worse. I think the owner is from middle east and hates foreigners in general, but Americans in particular. I have pictures to prove the condition of the hotel and the room. There are several other reviews on this cite that have experience similar to ours.

A true HELL HOLE. Should not be rated with any stars. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL EVEN IF IT IS FREE. Did not honor the rate booked through Hotels.com. They charged us more for "city taxes", in cash only, and no receipt. When asked for the receipt, he told us "get it from Expedia.com". Of course, was probably an illegal charge. Front desk person hates hotels.com bookings and Americans. Hotel has a winding, narrow stairway to any level of the hotel. No rooms or hotel at the ground floor. Stairs are so narrow that it does not allow a suite case to go through. No elevator. Room was not clean, sheets were dirty, mattress filled with bed bugs, closet for clothes was a rope across the room, furniture was from the 60s and from thrift store and not matching, bathroom is an attic so no one over 2 feet could stand straight when in the bathroom--have fun taking shower on your knees. I have pictures to show if you are interested contact kmehtausa@yahoo.com. If you ask for receipt for extra charges, you will be threatened so be prepared. Front staff will get physical with you. They told Hotels.com that they "did not charge us for any taxes". We had three witnesses to our conversation with the front desk staff and their threats. When we asked about keeping the luggage in the storage for few hours, they replied "we will not give a luggage receipt". When we asked what if a luggage is missing, he replied "that is the risk you take". I will not stay at this hotel even if it is free. If you still decide to stay, may GOD Bless You. You will need all the help you can get since you are going to a true HELL HOLE. KM from Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.
