“Simple and useful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

The hotel is located about 400 m away from the central station but it doesn't have that visible sign make it recognizable (i recommend to use google map if you get their by walk). The place set in quiet zone on the river, about 300 m from the dam square. The hotel entry and stairs are really narrow you could struggle with your big cases but the staffs are helpful and always care of customer satisfaction. They have electrical stair for the seniors and special needs people. The bed, the bed sheets and WC are clean and smell fresh, despite they still use that heavy stupid cover sheet from 1970. The room furniture is classic and simple in nature not that much of fancy you expect. Basic utilites are excellent (wifi, coffemaker, fridge, flat screen, breakfast). I have been struggled alot with the safty box and could not t use it. Its old, difficult and useless. Taxi service avilable, all credit cards payment avilable. Fast check in and check out.You can say is your choice if you have reasonable budget looking for quiet clean and nice place to sleep and rest while release your energy the whole day.

We recently stayed in this hotel our only regret was not staying longer. Very welcoming hosts and an authentic Dutch room. Fabulous location with attractions in all directions. Pretty, continental breakfast in the morning to get you going with the hustle and bustle of city life just one block away. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a real cultural city break! Thank you :)

Great location and wonderful staff. It is worth the extra effort to choose the Prinsengracht room. Large, quiet and a wonderful view. The small tavern up the street is a quiet local place worth a visit.

Room Tip: Choose the Prinsengracht room

This isn't your everyday hotel. It is a boutique experience and a truly Dutch one at that. Albeit that there is no elevator to get to your rooms, the hotel staff are ready to assist. My fiance and I stayed here 2 nights and were very pleased with the room on the second floor. The space is great and the layout makes you feel like you are at home. Loved it. Location is excellent as well - less than 5 mins walk to Anne Frank house, Tulip museum, within 10 minutes or less you are at Dam Square, Madam Tussads, the tram. Great eating places all around the hotel. I would stay here again and again. Recommended for those who want a truly Dutch accommodation experience.

We booked a room with a canal view and lucked out getting the top floor (fine if you are comfortable with three flights of typically steep canal house stairs, though they are equipped with an electronic chair). This was room 7, in the gable, which makes for a tall ceiling with an extra window, bringing in lots of light. Conversely, the gable makes for a low shower, so if you are reasonable tall you'll crouch. The room has heaps of space and a huge bed. It has two arm chairs, from which gazing out at the canal through the leaves of the trees along Leliegracht is pleasingly zen. There's no street noise and you can't hear the neighbours from the room, but the bells and music of Westerkerk are pretty loud. They go off every half hour, and at certain times they sound briefly on the quarter hour. There's a different musical prelude to the bells each time they go off, the one at 4 a.m. being especially elaborate (sort of harpsicord, I guess). Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper (I can imagine that if you are a local you would grow to love the regularity of the bells). There are cool shops on the canal, and lots of the best of Amsterdam nearby (brown cafes, Dutch restaurants) without the less appealing bits. Top marks to the young chap at the desk and at breakfast who looked after us most days. He kindly booked us tickets for museums and Keuekenhof online.

With the exception of not having a lift (elevator), this property rates 4 stars.
We had a lovely room on the first floor (Room 1), which was quite large by Amsterdam standards, and had all the makings of a 4 star hotel room - bathtub, safe, fridge, gorgeous canal view.
If you don't mind at least 20 very steep steps, this is a great room at a great price.
However, if you have ANY problems with stairs, beware, this is not the hotel for you.

We spent 2 nights here and would definitely return. The location could not be better - lovely area and only 5 minutes' walk from the Anne Frank House so we were in there by 9am (TIP: book tickets in advance!). We stayed in the family room, very quiet at the top of the hotel, beds very comfortable. Very helpful and friendly owners, good breakfast. Yes the stairs are steep but that's part of the charm. Great value!

Room Tip: The family room is at the top at the back of the building, and very quiet.
