“Upgraded Hostel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

I stayed in the Meininger Amsterdam West with two colleagues for meetings in Amsterdam. Rooms are clean, small, quiet, bathroom is adequate but clean. Wifi everywhere in the hotel. Parking facilities next to the hotel, discount on rates via the hotel. It looks more a hostel than a hotel, with plenty of young people running around. Breakfast is adequate, there is enough. location is close to train to the airport (15 minutes) and bus to central station (15 minutes).
All in all a no-nonsense place, but for the same price you can book in a Ibis hotel close by, which affords more amenities.

This hotel was very clean and modern but I just didn't like the hostel feel, ie a kitchenette for people to prepare their own food and clearing up after yourself after breakfast. Lots of independent travellers too. Breakfast was poor quality too- we recommend going to the railway station next door and have breakfast in Starbucks. Overall not the Amsterdam experience I was hoping for. We were limited at the time of booking with availability and also had a car to think about and a 12 year old child.. The room was more than adequate with a good shower but the room was small and I felt like I was in a small cabin. You cant open the windows and rely on air con. The bedding very much like what you find on a ferry (duvet folded over that just covers the single beds)- and no spare pillows.Staff on reception were efficient and informative enough but I had to remind them that I had asked for a car space (they seemed happy enough for us to use the car park at the back of the hotel which was more expensive and possibly not as secure), when they have spaces in a secure car park in the basement of the building. We were carrying expensive bikes so were pleased with the final arrangement). The area is corporate, lots of offices and the hotel some way out of the centre- that said we had no problems using the trams and recommend buying passes for the numbe rof days you intend to travel not the daily tickets (works out cheaper)

A really nice student hotel, kitchen facilities (a bit small) but otherwise good. Great atmosphere, friendly and good staff. Only problem is location, during the day is fine but at night there is only 1 bus an hour from center town to the hotel area, so you can end up waiting a long time to get home after a night out

This was by far the cleanest and most modern hostel I stayed on during a recent interrail trip. We stayed in a private 3-bed room and with in-room wi-fi and a clean shower, the bar was set high for the trip! Very helpful staff, not the best location but a short bus ride from the centre.

I stayed here with two friends after flying into Amsterdam from Australia. I chose Meininger due to its accessibility from the airport by the train. It certainly was very close, only a few stops from the airport and very easy to find. However, the location is not great. There are no shops (the only ones being in the train station) as the hotel is situated in a business district. We stayed in a three bed room (one double, one single) which was very clean and had a spacious shower but the room was tiny. Though, due to the location it is very quiet at night. The free wifi was good but only worked in the lobby - but as we stayed on the first floor we occasionally picked up a signal. The kitchen facility is quite small but is sufficient and the breakfast is basic but okay. Staff were friendly enough but we did not really interact with them. Overall, I would recommend the Meininger to a traveller only staying in Amsterdam for the night (if you are flying in) but not for multiple nights if you intend to explore the city.

It's absolutely the best you could ask for in Hotel. It's facilities are superb, it's staff are friendly and helpful, and it's all in all a fantastic hotel. One thing that was excellent was that it was literally one minute away from the train station.

Family holiday .Chose Meininger as it was reasonably priced and in a suitable location in the city.Staff were friendly and very helpful with anything asked of them . Rooms were quiet at night as hotel not located ni a nisy area. Handy for central station also and other public transport.

Room Tip: Would recommend this hotel. Near the station but not at all noisy.
