“Fantastic canal to slow down and soak up the atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2014

Strolling down the tree lined, cobble stoned streets of the Herengracht was one of my favorite pastimes while in Amsterdam. Beautiful, picturesque homes line either side of the canal with plenty of photo taking opportunities. Canal boats often drift silently by as they pass underneath the numerous bridges crossing over this serene canal. You get a true idea of what living in Amsterdam is really like by letting the atmosphere wash over you while slowing down to explore one of the most stunning canals in Amsterdam.

“Picturesque”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

One of the main canals in the ring in central Amsterdam, well worth a browse either on foot or on a canal trip. Lots of historic houses, the narrowest house in Amsterdam, varying gable styles, bridges, trees, bicycles, cobbled streets, cafes, shops, house boats, flower market, the list goes on, so much to see and all evoke the picture postcard vision of the city.

“One of a kind”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

With Prinz and Keizersgracht, just one canal to enjoy walking and looking around. The light, the colors, the quaint bars and cafes... It makes you enjoy the city for it has to offer.

lots to see. Particularly enjoyed the Willem Hothouzen (spelt wrongly) canal house you can visit at the SE end, furnished as per 17 th century

“So atmospheric!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

We loved wandering along this canal, and others in the canal district. The bikes parked on the bridges, the barges and cruise boats sailing along below, lots of cafes, little shops and the flower market are all just so atmospheric and typical of what we expect in Amsterdam, as tourists.
We had lunch in De Prins. What a fantastic authentic Dutch cafe - across from Anne Frank's House.
