This is simply an outstanding museum.

It tells the story of the German invasion of the Netherlands in WWII, put on a friendly face to the populace, then gradually took their freedoms away, in a carefully calculated manner.

The use of propaganda from all sides is covered with intriguing detail. Personal stories from Jews and their neighbors paint a brutal picture that is impossible to ignore.

And yes, it makes you think, what would I do if I were in that situation? The answer is not easy.

This is one of the best museums I have ever been to. Extremely well-organized with fascinating stories from the Dutch Resistance Movement. At the same time, it did not shy away from the reality that many Dutch did not resist. The museum is a little off the beaten path (across from the Artis Zoo), but on a tram line. I was there on a Saturday and was shocked how empty it was -- quite a pity since I found this museum to be better than many of the other more popular Amsterdam sites.

My husband and I spent over 3 hours in this incredible museum. The exhibits are so well done that you feel like you are a member of the Resistance. The musuem is incredibly alive with audio recordings and films and the most interactive displays I've ever seen in a museum dealing with an historical episode. You'll see how the Resistance operated and even fake papers. Yes, there are some emotional moments. Make sure you schedule time to visit here.
