“OK Hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2010

The Rokin hotel is in a good position, a 10 Min walk from Central station and with Tram stops right outside the front of the hotel, although most of Amsterdam is walkable. We booked 3 rooms for our stay as we were a group of six. We did not get 3 rooms together although this was understandable as the hotel was busy and we checked in at different times. One of us had room 1 which was in the basement with a window right by the steps in to the hotel on the street and were kept awake most of the night by people passing in the street and coming back to the hotel. I would recommend avoiding room 1 for this reason. The other 2 rooms were at the back of the hotel on an upper floor which was much quieter but unfortunately the hotel seemed to be having problems with heating and both rooms were very cold all weekend until Monday morning when we were checking out when the radiators kicked into life.
Breakfast is good and the staff on reception helpful.
In the scheme of things Rokin is relatively cheap as Central Amsterdam hotels go and apart from the heating problem and Room 1 to be avoided if you just want a cheapish clean hotel it is probably worth considering.

The Tara Irish bar a few doors up serves great food and drink.
Bar Italia a few doors up is overpriced, has slow poor service and food portions are tiny. One to be avoided unless you like pretentious nouveaux cuisine, and are not very hungry.

A nice hotel in the heart of the city, very clean. We had a quite twin room of the last floor. The only minus- there was not anybody who could help us with the lagguage - the elevator stops at the 3d floor so if you have a room on the 4th, you have to carry your luggage by the screw staircase yuorself.
But in general it is a very cosy place.

Me and my GF stayed at the Rokin hotel, We booked it on-line prior to our arrival,
We booked a double bed room (King Size).
We arrived at 19:00 which is after the check in time, We got a really tiny room, With no A/C only a fan.
The toilet/Shower room was clean but really small. And a wooden beams in the middle of our beds.
The ceiling in the shower was really low, I'm 1.78 And it was really hard for me to take a shower.

We asked the guy on the front desk to change our room since it's not what we paid for, The answer we got was simply "We are fully booked, But we will change your room tomorrow, After Breakfast."
We came back after Breakfast and we got a little bigger room but still really small.
It was really clean (With no wooden beam), No bed bugs, The bed was awful......
Very inconvenient!! >>I can sleep better with a sleeping bag on the ground!!
We both (Me and my GF) got up every morning with back pains.
The breakfast was fine, Normal buffet breakfast i guess.....Nothing special.

Good: Breakfast included, Location, 24 Hours front desk staff, Helpful Staff,
A computer with internet is available in the lobby for free, Very clean.

Bad: Tiny rooms, The water in the shower didn't drain well plus there was a really bad smell coming out the sink.
Too Expensive for what you get, You can get a better hotel at this price.
No Air Conditioner only a lousy fan.
Very thin walls, We could ear everything from the next door.
The toilet doesn't flush well!!

This is a nice hotel with good facilities. The staff were lovely without exception and the place was spotlessly clean. My single room was small but adequate, as was the shower room. However it was very hot and although the fan helped a lot, my window opened onto the eternally busy Rokin and the noise was too much to allow sleep (the fact that it was world cup final weekend which Netherlands happened to be in added to the noise!) However none of this was anyone's fault. My companion was allocated a twin room in the basement which was cooler and a little quieter although he had to put up with the constant noise of people walking around the foyer above him. I have come to accept that hotel rooms in the Netherlands do not have kettles but the cupboard which should have contained the fridge did not. This would have been a huge benefit.
Breakfast was the usual Dutch hotel fayre of cheeses, meats, hot bacon and eggs etc. and was good as was the excellent coffee with a huge pot of piping hot milk for the koffie verkeerd. All in all a good hotel in a good location for shopping and sight seeing but don't expect to sleep much if you have a room at the front.
Finally, the stairs in the hotel are treacherously(and typically) narrow, steep and spiral so stick to the lift, assuming you have managed up the front steps in the first place. The breakfast room is in the basement with no lift access so be aware of this if arthritis or vertigo are issues for you!

The Rokin Hotel is one of the best 3* hotels ive stayed in in Amsterdam and for the price you wont find better in this city. I booked a single room ( not normally advisable in Amsterdam) and i was pleasantly suprised by its size and the execllent bathroom. The hotel was spotless all over, the staff were helpful and friendly, and the real bonus was the inclusive breakfast which was first class and would normally have cost another 20-30 euros in most other hotels. All round a really pleasant stay and I would recommend The Rokin to anyone looking for mid budget accomodation.

My wife and I went for our honeymoon to Curacao, Netherlands Antilles with a 2 night stopover in Amsterdam. We found the Rokin on the internet. Followed the instructions given on the site, and we got there on foot from the Central Station in 15 minutes.
Small, clean rooms, private bathroom indowntown Amsterdam. You can go for a walk and visit the city centre from the Van Gogh museum to the Red Light District on foot.. The canal boat stop is just 50 m. from the entrance. Nice service, breakfast was great.
The hotel is great for travellers who are looking for a place to sleep, with more than basic needs.
