“Will definitely return and recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

Just returned today from a 2 night stay at Hotel La Boheme. Excellent location with a 20-30 minute stroll to all the major sights. 40 minutes on the bus 197 from the airport or a train and tram bus ride. Staff on reception are excellent, friendly and full of all the answers to your questions regarding the local area, directions, places to go etc. You can also buy tickets for the museums at reception if you have not pre booked. Breakfast is continental but with very good choice. The croissants are delicious! The stairs are not an issue if you can climb stairs you can climb these ones. If you cant climb stairs stay in a hotel with a lift. There is only one criticism I have regarding the rooms and that is because there is laminate flooring in the bedroom you can here your neighbours in the room above you walking around. We may have been unlucky with heavy footed guests but it may be worth the hotel managers putting a rug in between the rooms that have twin beds to muffle the noise a bit or put a sign in the room asking those on the 2nd floor and above to be courteous to those in the rooms below.
We will definitely return and as a travel agent I will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to my clients. Thanks La Boheme :)

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Stayed here a couple of nights in June with a 3 bedder. Every review written below is truthful and it certainly deserves a strong rating for the cheerfulness & responsiveness of staff (uni students and Jacky the one whom responds to your email). The staff made our stay esp. memorable and they do write back to thank you for the stay and ask for feedback.

That said, some guests need to scale down their expectations as this is a 2 star hotel and you are bound to find space a premium as well as expect some dust on the window ledge/grit in your bathroom and a view of likely some ugly pipes.rooftop if you are the back end rooms. The stairs are indeed very steep and unless you are 90 years old or with weak knees and fear of heights, your better bet is ask for basement rooms and not upstairs.

The shower cubicle is very small and if you got a waist line of 40 inches (1.2m) you will not fit into shower which has a swing door. Don t expect sparkling toilet bowls as with 4 stars hotel but they are totally functional. Don t remember there is air con. Water is pottable and said to be best in Europe so safe to drink without boiling.

You get a sumptuous continental breakfast which includes juices, fresh fruits incl bananas, cereals, hard boil eggs and a small array of cold cut with cheese. No omelettes, scrambled eggs or bangers or ham (english breakfast) But you can ask for tea, latte, chocolate and expresso for your breakfast.

Lastly, the trams to goes near to 50 meters of this place direct from Central Station 1,2 and 5 and its too far a walk from Centraal Station. From the hotel it s short walk to many places of interest including Vondelspark, Rijkmuseum, Rembrant Museum, river cruise.

On balance the tariff for 3 pax is reasonable for eur150 and less for 2 pax. Don t hesitate too much as they only got 18 rooms in all (hmm.. after this advert, i m not sure i will easily be able to book a room when europeans have their vacation.

Don t forget to take a Kodak moment with the very detached MiMi, the celebrity cat. Have a good stay. Jacky and rest of staff, you certainly made us feel very welcome unlike other hotels with rude staff.

Room Tip: Back room is quieter but don t expect a view. Baseroom room may be better for aged guest

This is a great little place for anyone looking for place to stay in central Amsterdam without having to rob a bank. We met various staff members and loved the friendly service we received from each of them, especially Mimi the cat off course! It is true that the stairs are steep but we had been warned and we did not find them bad (though we did not have much luggage with us). We stayed in a room with a double bed on the top floor. The room was tiny but clean with a private bathroom. They had clearly made an effort to make it as comfortable as possible. For a longer stay I might look for a larger room (perhaps one with two single beds might have a bit more space to move around) but for a short stay it certainly is a nice place.

The location is amazing for the price. In the middle of the tourist area, but a short walk to Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, a cool big club, and lots of really nice bars that aren't full of drunken tourists (plus lots that are too).

I have stayed here about 5 times now over the last 10 years. Each time I stay my experience is exactly the same. The standards haven't slipped at all like some reviewers have said. The staff here (mostly) are really friendly and accomodating and full of knowledge. The rooms are fine (I have only ever stayed in a triple room). They are clean and well maintained. They are basic, but what more do you need? For the price in Amsterdam (its expensive people) you could get a lot worse, but I'm not sure better. Breakfast is continental of course but good (especially now they have croissants, yey!). There is a hotel cat too, what more do you need?! Oh yes, and there are 3 decent late night bars just up the road full of locals and not tourists/stags/hens from uk. Which is a MASSIVE bonus!

My only negatives: the bathroom is small, which is fine, but it does tend to smell, but thats only in the bathroom and the smell (of toilets really) doesn't leak out into the room at all. There are a lot of steep stairs to tackle, but then this is Amsterdam, have you seen the shape of most buildings? There is clearly no space for a lift.

Room Tip: If you like sleep I guess go for the back (but I never had an issue with the road noise). If you don...

Friendly and unpretentious. Helpful staff. Traditional house on 5 floors. Good value. Excellent location for art museums, trams to city centre, restaurants and direct bus to airport. Good breakfast. Lived up to our expectations.

Position is very good. Staff was very helpful when we asked a quiet room.
rooms are tiny..but i assume all kind of this hotel are the same. Good breakfast.
I can say that acquisition of good coffee machine- espresso can be a big plus for this hotel and more pressure for water.
But in the rest was very good.
Thank you

Great location and great service. Small but cozy rooms. The only thing you to take in account is the absence of elevator and narrow stairs. The hotel is located near main shopping and restaurant streets, but in a distance from city center and red light districts, so we could sleep with our windows open. It was a great stay.
