I have stayed in Amsterdam for six days for a conference. I booked the single room with private shower in the Asterisk hotel because it seemed to be a good price. The room was clean and breakfast was good.
However I was very disappointed when I learned about the hotel's WiFi policy. Asterisk charged 5 Euros for using their WiFi for 1 hour, 20 Euros for 5 hours and 30 Euros for 10 hours. Alternatively you could use their computer in the lobby (50 Cents for 10 min). The WiFi connection was one of the reasons why I chose this hotel because I wanted to do some work from my hotel room. I have carried my labtop from London to Amsterdam only for this purpose. Fair enough if the hotel would charge a small fee for the WiFi but personally I find that 5 Euros for 1 hour is too much. I also think that the fee for their WiFi should be stated CLEARLY on their website. If you click 'Internet' on the Asterisk website at the moment it just says: 'From all our hotel rooms WiFi-internet access is possible. For usage, please contact the reception upon arrival.'
