All front desk staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.
Stayed 3 nights.
We had a room for 3 and was very roomy.. As was the bathroom.
We will stay there again

Room Tip: Stay on ground or first floor..steep steps

I stayed at the hostel with three friends, shared two double rooms.
Biggest advantage is the price, its quite cheap to stay there (cause hostels are mostly 2-night booking only). Its clean, its allright, nothing much. wouldnt recommend it for a longer stay.
the rooms are tiny and the double bed is squeezed between the walls, there is no walking space whatsoever. Showers are on the hallway.

We liked everything about the hotel. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The room was clean as was the bathroom. It is also on a quiet street. The breakfast was good. If I were to go to Amsterdam again, I would be more than happy to stay there again.

I was travelling along and felt very comfortable staying here. The room was more than adequate. 70 euro a night for single that included breakfast. (boiled eggs, bread, cheese, vegetables, cereal, yoghurt etc). I could walk everywhere and a direct tram ride from the train station. It was worth the 15 euro at the end of the trip taking the airport shuttle from the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel located 20 min walking distance from the center. The toilets are not good also the bath. Cleaning is also a problem! Cheap though

Room Tip: good for low budget

It's the most disgusting place with the most horrendous staff I've ever come across in the entire life.
We only booked this hotel as we arrived on Queens Day and it was the only available accommodation..we now know why. On arrival we were booked in and given our key to the room over the road. the instant we opened the door we were greeted with the strongest stench of drains/eggs, that never left the room the whole stay. Beds were itchy and we all had bites in the morning, flea bites we are all sure. There was a sign at the front desk offering a late check out for 8 euros, we booked in for this, check out was at 11am, and we paid until 12. At 11am a man opened our door, without knocking, my friend and I were only in our underwear, and screamed that we were late checking out. From our bed, shocked, we said we had paid for a late check out, the man wouldn't leave the room for at least 10 minutes, it was awful. We obviously got straight up after he left and started to pack our bags, at 12 on the dot he again opened our door without knocking and said we had to leave very aggressively, my friend asked why he was being so rude and he told him to [...] off?! I have never in my life heard anything like this, we had paid to stay in the hotel and had not made any noise or bother. It was very strange. Of course we have complained to Bookings.com and we are awaiting their comments.

I went back to Amsterdam and knew the only place I wanted to stay was at the Asterisk.

Once again I had a very nice stay. Yes the rooms are tiny, but this is Amsterdam! The shared bathroom/shower was always clean and rarely occupied.

The owners were EXTREMELY awesome, and on three separate occasions they went WAY out of their way to make sure our stay there was the best it could be. They are very good people.

Breakfast in their very nice dining room was quite a treat, with lots of options of high quality foods. The only negative was at night the doors closing on their own were pretty loud. The steps are very steep in the aux building, but I lugged my heavy suitcases up without problem.
