We booked a quad room for two friends and a couple, and honestly the hotel was a pleasant surprise from start to finish.

Upon arrival, the exterior of the hotel is nothing to write home about, but there is a gated car park and plenty of light hits the front of the building (which is adorned with some old but sturdy tables and chairs).

The staff that greeted us at reception were friendly and spoke fluent English, and made our check-in fast and problem-free. The reception is tidy (if a bit dull), and there is a 24-hr pizza service in the lobby (nothing if not convenient!).

Upon entering the room, we saw clean, pressed white sheets, plenty of space, and a flatscreen TV (with USB and HDMI ports). Unfortunately there were no tea/coffee facilities, but we never really use those anyway. The beds were comfortable, neatly made, and sufficiently large.

The bathroom had a couple of minor issues, but nothing worth complaining about. The metal light over the mirror was slightly rusty, and there was a small, faded cigarette burn on the shower base. Other than that there was plenty of soap and shampoo, and it was a clean, fully functional utility.

When we came to leave, we were again greeted by lovely, friendly staff. There were no 'extra charges' or 'taxes' to pay, and we were asked if we enjoyed our stay. We were given a large (10") chocolate rabbit, as an Easter gift, and were sent away feeling completely satisfied.

It is a shame that so many negative reviews have been left for this hotel - for the price and location (Lidl within 30 seconds walk, tram within 30 seconds walk, 5 minutes drive off motorway, 10 minutes walk to Vondelpark) it is a really great hotel. We have booked another (slightly longer) holiday to Amsterdam, and are returning to West Side Inn.

A final note - I hope that you can overlook some of the bitterly-written negative reviews, angrily typed out by people expecting 5 star luxury, and realise that this is a great hotel.

the hotel has been expensive more than a 4 stars in london. it's unclean, noisy, with ruined furniture and inadeguate bathroom service, and even the wi fi didn't work. at this point I'm glad the breakfast was not included. need else?

This hotel failed to meet expectations and for no other reason than cleanliness. The reception area, bar and dining room all gave the appearance of a clean, modern hotel equal to it's 3 star rating, however the room itself and the public areas and corridors to the room fell far short of the standards expected.
Although on the 1st floor, there were ants crawling all over the dressing table and floor of the room. The beds were acceptable and the room was serviced daily with fresh towels provided. However, the common areas and corridors were dirty and like the room, poorly finished.
Someone was sick in the corridor near our room on Friday evening and made no attempt to clean it up which is disgraceful itself but the cleaning staff failed to attempt to clean the area properly in the next two days and the carpet was left badly stained and filthy. I suspect they hoovered up what they could and that was that. This was enough for me to question all the behind the scenes cleanliness at the hotel and I have to say I was glad to leave at the end of our stay.
The en suite shower room was functional but again if you looked closely, it wasn't that clean.
We arrived a couple of hours before the check in time of 3.00pm and despite our request for early check in, this wasn't possible as we hadn't requested this early enough (must ask before 48 hours of arrival) and we offered the opportunity to leave our bags in a luggage room. There was a lock on this door but the room wan't locked and I didn't feel that comfortable walking away leaving out bags unattended but I did and they were there when we returned ok. I can't understand why the hotel don't lock this room as a simple security measure.
Breakfast was typical of other hotels we've stayed in and I was happy with this. There was plenty of choice from cereal, cooked or continental options and toast and croissants, tea and coffee and fruit juices on offer. It was good value and perfect for our tastes.
Reception staff were generally friendly and helpful as were the dining room staff.
As the hotel is a fair distance from the centre of the city, it is too far to walk comfortably and I was glad that the tram stopped about 500m away. The trams are excellent and run every few minutes.
If I return to Amsterdam, I won't stay here again as I'm sure there are far better to be had for the same money and anyway, cleanliness should be expected regardless of the cost.

You get in this hotel what you paid for, it's a bit far from the center but there is tram stop 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The staff was helpful and the room ok, nothing fancy. I would say the could do with more cleaning as the whole structure looked dirty, but the room was clean enough.

Bit further out from the centre but not difficult to get a tram down. Fine for a cheap place to stay plus there is 24 hour pizza, I would probably stay here again although there was no air con and the room did get hot.

Purchased last minute for my girlfriend and myself. To be honest went for hotel due to price rather than location or reviews!!! Got lucky this time as hotel was great after a full day out exploring the city!!

Rooms were good size and clean, beds were big and comfy and hotel wasn't noisy so a good night sleep was easily achieved!!

Hotel located under 5minutes from tram stop and the tram line from hotel takes 10minutes to get to the Rijksmuseum (which is practically the centre of the city)

Well advice for future city visitors!!

It is not that there one thing that was terrible, but just the fact that there was so many small things that ought to be a lot better
- room not very clean, floor a bit sticky
- too hot room, not possible to open windows
- temperature in shower very hard to regulate
- no grid over drain in shower
- no hooks for towells in bathroom
- toilet "gurgling"
- dripping water from ceiling in hallway
- bad coffee for breakfast
- ordered shuttle bus to airport was +25 min late

All in all - I'll most likely be going back!
