Last week we spent three wonderful days in Amsterdam in the B&B Sunhead of 1617. The B&B is located very close to all important sights of the city as well as shopping streets and the main station. The appartment we rented was comfortable and charming (the kitchen looked a bit old, but we did not come to Amsterdam for cooking). The rooms were well heated, a fact that is very important for someone like me who gets cold easily (especially since the weather outside was rainy and cold). Carlos prepared an excellent breakfast every morning - one day we overslept and he even served us breakfast at nearly 12.00. That was really exceptional and very kind of him. He was always in a good mood and obviously likes to entertain his guests - breakfast was always great fun. When leaving I forgot some personal belongings in the appartement - a few days after our trip Carlos sent me an email and offered to send me the things. I recommend the B&B suhead of 1617 to everyone who wants to have relaxed holidays in Amsterdam, an excellent breakfast, really nice hosts and an adequate price for accommodation.

Having Carlos as our gracious host was a 1 in a million shot. His breakfast is unmatched amongst all of my travel destinations and everything went as smooth as possible. Only a short walk from the Red Light District and the best shopping in Amsterdam. I will definately recommend this to all who travel to Amsterdam. YOU CANNOT TOP THIS PLACE!!!!

The owners of Sunhead 1617 is very friendly and hospitable. Carlos serves a very tasy breakfast, the room were clean and cosy and the place is perfectly located in the heart of Amsterdam. Last day of our visit we got to go on a boatride in the canals with Roelf, one of the owners. Highly recomended!

Deciding to walk from Centraal Station, we followed the step by step directions Carlos provided, which took us from the hustle and bustle of the main area to the tranquil and scenic canals. What a relief! After nearly getting knocked down by a bicycle and seeing the commercial strecth of Damrak I have to confess my initial impression was one of disappointment. I'd heard such great things about Amsterdam and upon leaving the station I felt like I had been plonked in the middle of Blackpool (somewhere I would not wish to revisit!). I was amazed that after a quick right and left I entered what I had pictured Amsterdam to be, a truly beautiful and wonderful City. With my expectations now back up to a high standard, Sunhead had a lot to live up to. As I followed the last direction and was fronted with the B&B I was so pleased, it certainly stood out! As soon as I walked through the door the welcoming and friendly atmosphere was apparent. Carlos took the time out to pass on his knowledge of the area and sent us off to start our long weekend loaded with a further insight and a map. Musts are; Anne Franks House and the Flea Market, however there is so much to see whilst taking a leisurely stroll around the many tree lined canals that you really must see Amsterdam on foot. However come our third day we opted for a canal boat trip to let our feet recover and I'd highly recommend the canal bus, hop on, hop off service. It was such a great weekend, which I can honestly say was made by staying at such a wonderful B&B. Our room was beautiful and full of treasures, well equipped and spotlessly clean, I've read many of the other reviews and also feel it necessary to rave about Carlos. A true gem of a host who makes you feel at home in his and provides the loveliest breakie! Thanks Carlos, we would certainly come again.

Oh my god as Carlos would say !! We went to Amsterdam for the Madonna concert and it was a toss up who was more entertaining Carlos or Madonna and Madonna was brilliant!

Carlos and Rufian are very friendly and welcoming. This is not an everything in "apple pie order" style of hotel and that's what gives it so much charm. It's quirky, it's fun but above all else it is a sample of Amsterdam canal side living and not just another hotel room that could be the same in any city in the world!

We stayed in the Yellow Narcisus room which is in the loft space and has to be negotiated via some steep and narrow stairs but you soon get used to them and we are not young fit things! The stairs are typical of all canal houses. Our room was compact but comfortable with an en-suite and considering the price it was very good value - AMSTERDAM HOTELS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE - even a 2* could cost 200 euros per night and what's the point of paying crazy prices if like us you are spending very little time in your room? If you prefer a nice view go for the Red room. We love to splurge but only if we are going to have plenty of time to enjoy the facilities.

Carlos prepares a lovely breakfast and at the same time entertains you. Carlos is also very knowledgeable about Amsterdam - use his knowledge to add to your enjoyment!

Like lot's of other visitors I have given Sunhead 1617 top marks but please do not think that means that everything is brand new and top quality or 5* levels of comfort . This is a fun B & B that provides excellent value in a very convenient place for sight seeing.

This was our first visit to Amsterdam and it won't be our last! It is cheaper to go to a concert in Amsterdam than London and a lot more fun! On our return Sunhead 1617 will be top of the list!

Thanks and well done to Carlos and Rufian.
