Amsterdam has so much to offer! Museums, canals, cycle rides, historical tours just for starters. But now Carlos' and Roelf's breakfast table can be added to the list of attractions. Not only do they provide comfortable, characterful accommodation in their delightful 400 year old Canal District house (so much nicer and more interesting than bland modern hotels), but they also provide truly memorable breakfasts. The food, as you would expect from former restauranteur Carlos, is delicious, but best of all is the conversation. Each morning we met two or three delightful couples from all corners of the world, happy to chat and exchange experiences and travel tips. You set off on each day of exploration smiling and energised by these serendipitous encounters. Outstanding location. Perfect hosts. Don't hesitate!

Room Tip: We were in the Jasmine Room, so enjoyed great views of the Herrengracht canal. I believe the Tulip r...

From the moment we started the process of booking til we checked out everything was great. When booking Carlos explained how to get there, museums nearby, boat tours, advised us on restaurants etc.
The b & b is ideally located in a quiet neighbourhood but just minutes from the centre. It is a typical Dutch house so very steep stairs and no lift to get to the bedroom which wasn't a problem apart from when returning from a big meal & a coffee shop!
Great views from our bedroom (Tulip Room) to the canal. Very clean room and confortable bed.
The best part... breakfast! Sat at a long table with the other guests while the owner freshly prepared an amazing breakfast consisting of smoothies, juices, scrambled eggs, vegetables and of course plenty of breads & cheese!
All in all, a lovely place when visiting the city, would definitely go back!

Room Tip: Tulip Room is lovely overlooking the canal

Carlos and Roelf's 400-year old, tastefully decorated inn on peaceful Heren Canal was a delight to experience, and the delicious breakfast at their big bright kitchen table was one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. It was the perfect central location, around the corner from the Anne Frank House.

From start to finish, Carlos and Roelf-Jan couldn't do enough for us ... from turning the fabulous Tulip room into a twin at time of booking to the carrying of our bags down the three flights of narrow winding stairs at the end of our stay, whilst we went for a last look around amazing Amsterdam.
The attention to detail is spot on ... Different coloured bedding and matching towels for each guest and fabulous art work and artefacts to feast your eyes on. An overall sense of peace and tranquility permeates this gorgeous B&B that is livened up at breakfast time by Carlos's ironic laughter and Roelf-Jan's brilliant butlering.
The best though are the sumptuous breakfasts. Freshly squeezed smoothies with a zing of ginger that ready your taste buds for the plateful of fluffy bacon infused scrambled eggs and warm rolls, followed by a pot of fresh fruit in quark and chestnut sauce. Tea by the potful, cheese on demand and a request about the chestnut sauce that led to a packet being given as a gift.
Carlos and Roelf-Jan and their staff are wonderful and welcoming. They made our short trip one to treasure and I'm so glad we stayed at Sunhead 1617.
Thank you guys, you are very special hosts.

We spent two nights in Sunhead of 1617 at the beginning of april 2014. It's so close to central station and to everything you would like to see in Amsterdam; you can consider just walk everywhere.
Sunhead it's friendly and Carlos it's a great host. Breakfast it's delicious; you have to ask nothing because Carlos cooks everything you would need and serve it.
It seems to be at home, but you are in a real Amsterdam house dated 1617; narrow and with steep stairs!
We had The Narcissus room; upper floor; under a great wooden roof. Clean and with confortable bathroom. Not facing the canal but quiet.

Carlos and Roelf-Jan are the nicest and most welcoming hosts imagineable, Carlos' breakfasts are great, and the rooms, especially the gable Tulip room where we slept, are very charming. Add to that a fantastic location on the Herengracht canal, and there's no wonder we'd reccommend Sunhead1617 to anybody!

Room Tip: The Tulip room- a gable room with amacing ceilings
