“In a league of it's own.”

Sunhead 1617 is in a league of it’s own.
I can’t recommend this place enough, even if you can only spare one night here. The entrance to this four hundred year + canal home is full of flowers and it really makes you feel welcome and comfortable - even before you have stepped through the door. When we first arrived we were greeted by one of our Hosts, Roelf-Jan. A truly lovely man, he showed us around the Bed and Breakfast and lead us up the narrow staircase to our newly refurbished ‘Iris’ room. We had read only good things about this place and we were not disappointed.
Our room, like the rest of the house, was tastefully decorated by Carlos (who we would meet the next morning for breakfast) and it had everything we needed for our four days in Amsterdam. What I loved about our room (and so did my fiancé) was the little touches - a Nespresso machine, hand painted pictures (by Carlos), the softest bed known to man , exposed wooden beams etc. These things, besides the fantastic service, only reinforced our decision to avoid the big hotel chains when travelling.
The next day, we met Carlos. Besides being extremely funny and great to talk to, he always started our day off on a good foot. His artistic flair and personality is reflected everywhere you look – and can he cook a mean breakfast!
All in all, staying here was the highlight of our two month trip around Europe and I can’t recommend Sunhead of 1617 enough. We can’t wait to go back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great!

We have just spent three days at Sunhead. It is an excellent B&B. Rooms are great. A typical Amsterdam home with very steep stairs. We stayed in the yellow room at the top. Four floor climb. Breakfast is very good enough to last the day. You share a breakfast table with other guests so there is lots of conversation. Carlos and Rolfe are great hosts and keep the place spotless. You are given a key to come and go as you like. Room has fridge, Nespresso machine and a kettle. Bed was very comfortable.

Looking for a small B&B to celebrate my wife's birthday we stumbled upon Sunhead 1617 in a guide book, we checked the website and then booked (by email) the Tulip Room for 3 nights.

What a find, a charming, well presented en-suite room at the top of the building with lovely views over the canal (the steep stairs are not for the faint hearted, though characteristic of this type of canalside house). Carlos is a wonderful host and breakfast with the other guests in the small kitchen / dining room is sumptous with his beautifully prepared breakfasts, conversation wih the other guests and peppered with Carlos' entertaining observations on the world at large.

Carlos is a very courteous and extremely helpful host - he will book ahead for visits to local museums and will advise on exhibitions that may be off the tourist trail.

We would definitely return - 3 lovely days in a beautiful setting and in the company of a wonderful host.

My wife and I recently spent two nights in a canal facing room. The location of the B&B was perfect, close to the Westermarkt tram stop, Westerkerk, Anne Frank House, and no more than a fifteen minute walk to Centraal Station. Carlos cooked an amazing breakfast each morning, with raspberry and pear smoothies, scrambled eggs, and freshly squeezed orange juice. We will definitely be returning to experience the hospitality of the Sunhead 1617 B&B.

Just returned from a weekend in Amsterdam and stayed in the red tulip room at Sunhead 1617. This is a gorgeous b&b with fabulously friendly owners. Great location on the canalside and we loved being in the gable room with our windows wide open onto the canal. But one of the highlights was absolutely the top notch breakfast which was delicious and comprised different elements each day - smoothies, freshly pressed orange juice, eggs, plus different tasty accompaniments and unusual spreads for the freshly warmed rolls. Yum. Set us up for the day. Just a delightful place to stay and would highly recommend it.

We stayed for three nights and loved the location - walking distance to great coffee shops, restaurants and many attractions. Carlos is an entertaing host and great chef. He also sent us in the right direction for bicycle rentals--don't miss out on this while you're there. It's the best way to see the city. Would love to go back and stay at Sunhead again.

We stayed in the Singel canal apartment for 3 nights and it was amazing! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It's a great location to explore Amsterdam. The apartment was extremely clean and was pretty spacious. You can't go wrong booking this place!
