“Excellent stay in sunheads singel appt.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2011

We spent five nights staying at the singel apartment that is owned by Carlos of the sunhead b&b.
We went to the b&b first to collect the keys then walked round the the aparent which is close by.
The apartment is in a perfect location on the canal, nice and quiet but close to everything. The apartment itself is a good size with everything we needed including a Nespresso machine. The bed was massive, comfy and being at the back of the apartment it was so quiet-we had the best nights sleep ever on a holiday
Loved the freedom of an apartment and this was in the perfect spot to explore this fabulous city.

This was our 5th visit to Amsterdam and we looked for a romantic place in a good location and that’s what we found at sunhead!
Sunhead is located at the heart of the city in the beautiful herngracht (canal), 5 minutes from the dam, anne Frank House and many others. Perfect location! we stayed in the wonderful and romantic red tulip room at the top floor with wonderful view over the canal (not sutible for those who have mobility problems). The bed was very comfortable and everything had a special touch. Carlos was a fantastic host, and we Enjoyed the exceptional breakfast he made us every morning. You wont find this at a hotel. exceptional service that makes you feel at home. lovely stay - We will be back!!!

Room Tip: for a canal view - ask the red tulip room

Carlos is the owner/innkeeper at Sunhead and he offers a lovely, quiet base to explore this beautiful city. The home is a multilevel, narrow space that ends up in a charming room over looking the canal. Everything in Amsterdam is narrow and charming, but Sunhead seems particularly appealing. Carlos provides a delicious and ample breakfast; plus he sells tickets to various attractions, that allow you to bypass lines. Sunhead is located a couple of blocks from The Anne Frank House and has several lovely restaurants right nearby. I fully recommend a stay at Sunhead B&B.

What can i say? This places is fantastic. Location wise, right in the middle of the canal district, a few minutes walk from the centre with local restaurants, great cafes and bars. Carlos is a dream host.. he is helpful and entertaining and makes a mean brekkie. the house is perfect. with its windy staircase, beautiful rooms and a cosy homely kitchen.
It was freeeezing in amsterdam when we were there so in the depths of winter you won't be coming home to a toasty bedroom if you are in one of the bedrooms in the roof, but we were out late and spent little time in the room itself so this didnt bother us.

I travel to Europe every year and Amsterdam is always my last stop. Like most travelers, accommodation is a big issue for me since comfort is important while away particularly if one is traveling alone. 5-star hotels can definitely provide this but they will empty your pocket before you can go out and enjoy the city. Finding a good place at reasonable price has been a challenge for me until I found Sunhead Bed & Breakfast.

Sunhead is located at the very heart of the city. It is 2 blocks away from the famous Anne Frank House and several blocks away from the Rembrandt and Van Gogh museums, Madame Tussaud, the Dam Square, Red Light district and so many others. One can practically see the sites on foot from Sunhead. But more than its strategic location, Sunhead is a home away from home. Aside from the rooms oozing with artistic decors, comfortable beds and the exceptional breakfast, there is one tiny detail that makes Sunhead a noche above the rest -- Carlos and Roelfjan. They are such excellent hosts that every service you get from the place is marked by their personal touch. Carlos carefully prepares a sumptuous breakfast every morning with matching warmth and exceptional service that you will feel right at home. Without exaggeration, I guarantee that you will keep coming back to your home in Amsterdam after your first visit.

We stayed at the Sunhead 1617 in January this year for my fiances birthday!
Unfortunatly my fiance went down with the flu on our visit and Carlos was soo kind and helpful. He put a breakfast together for me to take to my fiance and gave us some cold tablets to help.
He even let us stay in our room till we were due to catch our train which wasnt till late afternoon!!!!
Carlos was a fantastic host !!!
The B&B was nicely decorated (we stayed in the red tulip)with wonderful view over the canal. It was a great touch to have the snacks and coffee machine and kettle in our room, plus a fridge with wine , water and shorts . All perfect finishing touches..
The B&B was centrally located so most sights of interested were in walking distance.
Overall it was a lovely stay !!!
The only word of warning would be to those who have mobility problems as there are steap stairs up to some of the rooms but there is always the wonderful apartment to stay in if you struggle with the stairs.

We will be back !!!

We try to visit Holland once a year. If we do not book soon enough and no rooms are available, we postpone our visit knowing we will be disappointed by all other choices . Not that the other B&Bs are not good, this is simply the best. Yes, it has all the comforts of home in a beautifully restored canal house, but what sets this apart are the fascinating and engaging owners. The invariably delicious breakfasts are always accompanied by interesting, insightful and often hilarious conversations which provide a gateway into all things Dutch. Politics, Art , HIstory , Books, as well as EVERYTHING else, are open for comment. This is a microcosm of what makes Amsterdam great and this place oh so precious.
