Stayed here for 3 nights in September, and I really believe that this bed and breakfast made our whole Amsterdam experience so enjoyable. You have to have an appreciation for character at this place -- there's no TV, no phone in the room, and a long steep ladder to get up to the bathroom. In other words, this place isn't for everyone. But what Maes lacks in amenities, it makes up for in charm. Ken and Vlad gave us all of their recommendations for local restaurants, markets, and activities, so we were able to ditch the tourist persona and live like a local for a few days. It's in a beautiful area, surrounded by great cafes, close to the major sights but far enough away to be quiet and beautiful at night. It was our first time at a B&B, and as anonymity-loving hotel people, we were pretty nervous. But we would definitely go back. If you get the chance, stay here.
