The owners of this B&B, Ken and Vlad, also rent out some apartments for visitors. My family and I came to Amsterdam a few months ago and stayed in one of them. The experience was absolutely terrific -- a great deal, which I'd recommend to any large group of people. So when I had to return by myself, on business, I decided to skip the usual corporate hotel and booked a room at their B & B.
The room was not huge, at least if -- like me -- you're used to American hotels. (I think they're about average by European standards.) And, since it's a B&B, it doesn't have a huge lobby with concierge, etc. This is basically a really old Amsterdam house, so the stairs are very narrow (no huge bags) and there's no air conditioning. If any of these things aren't your thing, you should probably stick to a regular hotel.
But if you don't mind these things -- and if you want something with charm -- then definitely consider staying here.
For one thing, the location can't be beat. It's in the Jordaan section, which is the old, upscale area known for its fine cafes and shops -- some of them literally just steps from the front door of the B & B. It's a bit quieter and less touristy than the center of town, since real people live here, etc. (Of course, sometimes people hang out at the cafes late, so you pick up a bit of small street chatter.) But it's also a (very) short walk to Dam Square, Central Station, and the city's major attractions.
It's also got reasonably fast wireless internet -- and it's free. If you're familiar with the rates they charge in many European hotels, you'll appreciate what a big difference that makes.
Rooms come with televisions and bathrooms, both modern. The beds are extremely comfortable. (At least mine was.)
The breakfast room has a full kitchen, available to guests to use as they please (except during breakfast, when they make coffee and serve pastries & pancakes.)
Finally, while there's no concierge, there's Ken and Vlad. As you'll see from other reviews, they have a reputation for being extremely helpful and courteous. It's entirely deserved.
I would definitely stay here again -- and can't recommend it highly enough.
