“Best B&B in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2007

The next time you plan a trip to Amsterdam check out Mae's B & B. It's within walking distance of the train station, in the heart of the Jordaan district and the hosts are wonderful. Wouldn't stay anywhere else. Vlad (one of the hosts) will direct to you all the best pubs and restaurants. Our room was wonderful, beautiful private bathroom and a pc right outside our door to check our email.

This place was recommended to me by two friends that had previously stayed there. Initially, the rates were a little bit more expensive than I wanted to spend, but considering the location and the view I decided to splurge. I was able to find other hotels a bit cheaper but none in such a prime location. The apartment is right on the Singel canal, with beautiful views all around. You really feel as though you are a resident of Amsterdam. The apartment was clean and well kept up. It has a large living room with comfortable furniture and a small TV. The bedroom has one full size bed. I was traveling with a friend so we had to share the bed, but it was big enough for two and very comfortable. The bathroom is a little small but it didn't seem to matter. I never used the kitchen but it was well equipped with dishes, silverware, pots and pans. The owners and staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. They also helped with carrying our bags up the steep staircase.

Besides the gorgeous views from the apartment, what makes this an excellent place to stay is the location. You can easily walk to Centraal Station, Dam Sqaure, The Red Light District and the Anne Frank House. There are pleanty of restaurants, shopping, pubs and coffeehouses all within a block or two.

We stayed for 2 nights at this absolutely lovely Bed and Breakfast. Location is perfect, close to Centraal station, Anne Frank House, Canal cruises, etc. The exterior of the place does not give you any indication of how fabulous the interior is. Our room was beautifully decorated and bed very comfy, with private bathroom, shower and jacuzzi tub. The staircase leading up to the shower and tub was tight and steep, so if you have any kind of leg or balance problems, this may not be the room for you. (they have other rooms) Breakfast was a great layout in the cozy kitchen/dining area. Homemade croissants, selection of breads, sweets, cheeses, yoghurt. They even served Poffertjes, the typical Dutch little pancakes, delicious!
The owners are very knowledgeable about Amsterdam and gave us lots of advise as to restaurants, etc. and made reservations for us. Ken and Vlad, the owners, have a jewel in Amsterdam...I can't say enough great things about this place.

My husband & I stayed at Maes again this year during the IBC convention. This is a huge show so accommodation is always difficult to get & prices are always high.
We stayed here last year in a great bedroom at the rear of one of the houses overlooking the garden. Only drawbacks were the narrow stairs when arriving & departing with heavy suitcases and the fact that our bathroom was up some more narrow stairs which was a bit daunting in the middle of the night!
So this time when I emailed to ask Vlad what was available, he mentioned an apartment on the ground floor. This was in the same house as last time (there are 2 houses) but had its own entrance.
We had a small lounge area with TV, stereo etc, bathroom, bedroom with a King size bed, separate toilet and kitchen with all the cooking facilities required.
This suited us well as we were there for 8 days so it gave us plenty of space. We were able to do our own breakfasts (which meant we did not get to have the great breakfasts provided last year) but was good as my husband has to leave early each morning. It was also fun shopping at the local shops.
Now this place is not palatial. If you are looking for 4 or 5 star accommodation, look elsewhere. But the location is great - near the canals between Centraal Station & Dam Square. The streets are quiet so traffic noise is not a problem. The only noise you do get is other guests as they move about upstairs.
We paid 115 Euro + tax per night which we think is good value.
If we go back next year we would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I recently spent eight days in Amsterdam at Maes B&B apartment at 233 Kiesergracht. The apartment was very close to the center, and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted. Negotiating the apartment and arrival and departure details with Ken and Vlad (owners of Maes) was a breeze. They were very helpful, friendly, and quick to respond. The apartment was fully equipped with extra bedding for our guests, a washer and dryer, a full kitchen, and all the tour, dining and shopping guides of Amsterdam a visitor could need. We will definitely refer them to our friends and family who are planning a trip that way. As with all of the city's stairwells, the one at this Mae's apartment is no different - they are indeed steep and narrow - but Ken and Vlad are very upfront and honest about the stair situation. And you get used to them pretty quickly - just be mindful of your luggage sizes.

I and my friend stayed in Maes B&B for 9 nights (from Aug.30 to Sep.7, 2007) and we really enjoyed our stay there. Maes B&B has a very good location, about 10 minutes walk with our heavy luggage from the Central Station and within walking distance to main attractions.

Ken greeted us when we arrived. He helped us with our luggage and gave us a very detailed introduction to the room. We have a cozy room with a bathroom in the attic. The bathroom even has a jacuzzi inside. They have an open kitchen policy and therefore it is quite convenient for us. We can use the kitchen whenever we like. There are always plenty of fruits on the table. We can take them as much as we like.

Every morning we are awaked by the smell of croissant and the breakfast are quite delicious and plentiful. There are cheese, ham, juice, yoghourt, coffee, tea, fruits, different taste of cakes and bread. Most importantly, they have the mini pancakes ! So yummy ! Sometimes in the breakfast time, Vlad greeted us and give us some suggestions about the attractions. Ken and Vlad are really wonderful host. We will definitely recommend Maes B&B to anyone who is going to visit Amsterdam and will stay there again !

My partner and stayed at Maes for 3 nights in Aug.
We stayed here because of the positive reviews in TA.
Vlad and the guys did everything for us to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
The room was newly decorated and was great.
Breakfast was served in the kitchen each morning and was a great way to start the day.
The kitchen was open 24/7, the fridge was available if you needed it.
Although the stairs are very steep, it didn't really bother us, we just considered it as our cardio workout.
Thanks Vlad for your help and giving us great info about the city.
