Do yourself a favor and do not come near this hotel!
We booked double room for a week at the beginning of January, we read comments on this site and we knew what to expect.
We were with large bags and the room was on the 4th floor, the staircase is very steep and difficult to climb, okay no problem some sports I'm not complaining.
The building is quite old and narrow corridors, carpets torn and dirty and smelly bad, ok not complaining I know when I saw a small sign that the building is being renovated (there is no mention of the renovations, the place is tacky!)
We went upstairs and entered the room was very small two people a large suitcase and two bags almost impossible to be there, but we were prepared because we read about it on the site.

Now the door of the room did not open to end only to half that was broken, The sheets were very dirty, was cigarette-removing and spots of blood on the sheets and glued gum, dust at a height of 1-2 cm in all the shelves and the TV so you can not was breathing, decay on the ceiling was all black marble shower and was all broken and you could get hurt, wherever there was lots of mirrors (I understand it's for the feeling of a larger room) but had a feeling someone poking you that was also seen in each bathroom.
We went down to reception to ask for another room because it's just not human, they told us no rooms available until tomorrow and said that "you should not have to get this room that is not used for a year now" (we made room booking six months in advance), we sleep one night in this room and the next day got another room which was exactly the same, again we got the reception and they told us it was no longer room and will be available in two days, just two days gave us a room on the third floor and is less smelly but still with a lot of dust and the shower is broken, by the way all the rooms was lice in bedding and carpets.

In short, do not come near to this hotel, it is better to pay a few euros more and go through suffering and live in a place that looks like a murder scene.

Thank you and I would never get close to this place even if I would get it for free!!!!!

Room Tip: Just do not rent a room there

The hotel staff were great. Really nice people. But the place could be--needs to be--so much better. The fake wood paneling is coming off of the walls. It's dirty, and they don't change sheets or towels. Ours were stained and smelled like mildew. The whole place smells a little like mildew, actually. Our view was on to a broken window in another of the hotel's rooms which had been patched with pressboard. The place is falling apart at the seams and it's a little gross.

The question you need to ask yourself is: do I really want to stay in a place that I'm not going to look forward to coming home to at nights? For the price, you can do better. Or rent a bike and stay a little further from the center. From the hotel, you'll end up walking 15 minutes anytime you want to see something interesting anyway.

Room Tip: The rooms in the front of the building seem to be the best ventilated and biggest.

we regret we couldn't meet your expectations , we are an Old Monumental canal House , UNESCO Listed and kept the building in the original Old Dutch Brown Style , we understand its not everybody's prefer-ate taste but is Unique for Amsterdam inner center , and you have experienced how Locals live in the earlier days. The hotel is more like an museum ,a travel through time . we do compensate the small rooms with our Lobby and Smoking Lounge free to use at anytime of the day where you can meet , socialize and exchange experience with other guests and Staff more than willing to explain ,organize where to go or what to do. Sincerely Manager

Just come back from here today. Didn't mind it, it's very simple and plain. It's apparently being restored at the moment but it appears thhat the 1 guy doing the restoration is also the same guy who runs the bar and tends to the desk lol. Location is good in a residential area, close to Rembrantplein Square and he red light district. Staff are friendly. I was in a room on the top floor (5th floor) witth some pretty steep stairs. Quite a task to climb after a day out around the city. The room definitely needs decorating, television didn't work and there's no window in bathroom so can smell a bit damp. My daughter stayed in a room on the 3rd floor which was nicer but still in need of a revamp. There's sooooooo much space in the bar area which no one is using, the place really seems llike it's wasted at the moment. There is no smoking of any sort in the rooms but there is an area in the basement where you can smoke anything, use internet etc. This has been restored very nicely. I'm not sure i will go back simply because for the price we paid, we could stay in nicer places. It was only £5 cheaper than the Ibis. Oh, if you do not like church bells DO NOT stay here!

Room Tip: If you can help it, you do not want numbber 19 or 21. They're on the 5th floor and desperately...

thank you for your time to write us a review , we are a small hotel and all staff know each other for years , we do have more employees than one...ha ha but we help as much as we can and perhaps that's why it looks that one guy is doing everything. we are doing maintenance work but will keep different styles . the Bar is Old Dutch brown style but the smoking area more modern and brighter colors. Guest have a choice where to spend their time but as well will experience how real dutch locals used to live in the old days , we are an monumental Listed building and all rooms , spaces are kept in the original style . We understand not everybody taste but it makes us a unique hotel , Ibis Hotel you can find all over the world in the same style and no surprises. With us you know you have visited the original quarter of Amsterdam with his typical Canal houses and Canals. As you saw our neighbors have same houses and even steeper stairs. we thank you for your stay , Sincerely manager

We arrived at this hotel by taxi and it is a difficult place to get to but our taxi driver did just fine down the narrow streets. Once we got our bearings, it is a brilliant location! Easy to walk to all the main attractions. The rooms were a good size, however the bathroom was small. No room between the toilet and the sink. None of the issues with the rooms bothered us, however, because the staff were excellent. Piero, the gentleman on reception when we arrived could not have been more helpful. He told us all the good places to go and was always friendly and happy. He had an excellent knowledge of Amsterdam and even gave me a free bar of chocolate when we left. Result!

First off let me say that this hotel doesnt pretend to be anything its not.

When booking our trip we read all reviews (which only fools dont) so knew exactly what to expect. Arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a pleasent young italian man who went out of our way to make sure we felt settled in. He informed us of some amazing resturants and tourist attractions to visit whilst we were in amsterdam.

Our room unfortunatly was on the 5th floor however this didnt dampen our experience. A little exercise never hurt anyone!!

The room was spacious and clean. Yes a little old fashioned but nothing too garish. The bathroom was a little dissapointing, however it was still clean and we recieved fresh towels everyday. The bed was comfy and all bedding and pillows clean. The maid came once a day, we usually missed her as we were out all day, but we did see her cleaning rooms when we left in a morning.

The wifi in the hotel was excellent and there was a computer and printer downstairs which we could print off our boarding passes. There was a small bar area with clean water avaliable free of charge.

The only thing we felt let the hotel down was the lack of air conditioing in the rooms. We only had a small window so the room was quite hot. However definatly not anything to ruin your experience here.

If your looking for a cheap and cheerful hotel in the centre of Amsterdam then look no further. Do not be put off by these negative reviews as most things they complain about wouldnt effect your holiday.

Let me first say im not a picky person and have never wrote a bad review about any hotel before.
I booked this hotel without reading reviews properly until after booking ( my own fault i know ).
Further to reading these i was very apprehensive before arriving due to some bad reviews.
Emailed a few month ahead asking for low floor canal view - prompt reply told me no canal viewes left but would try and accomadte me with low floor.

only plus i can give is -Good location - On arriving hotel clean and very appealing from outside and in hotel recption.
Given keys by very pleasant gentleman and was issued a room on the 4th floor up 50 stairs. No low floor rooms left. Room was very tatty , dingy with vile mirrors above bed and on walls
(would be more suited to a brothel ) old dusty curtains , dirty bathroom with foisty tiles and damp smell , every time sat on toilet it came off wall little by little till you were nearly sitting on sink. Iv stayed in better camp sites - this should be inspected by the relevant authoritys who inspect hotels in amsterdam. I did complain but was told the hotel was fully booked.

Tried to stay out as long as possible and only came back to get changed , although this was a disatsre one day whilst climbing the 50 stairs our key wouldnt work so climed back down the 50 stairs to reception who could only apoligise and climed back up again another 50 stairs to get the door open thus gasping for breath .

i read over and over again this is hotel and in keeping with its age - hotels iv stayed in of this age are in no way in the state this hotel is -worst hotel iv ever stayed in book somewhere else .

Room Tip: saty somwhere else
