Our family of five stayed at Casa Nuova for eight nights in August. The apartment is exactly as pictured; it is nicely decorated and is much more spacious than a typical Amsterdam hotel would be (you could never fit five people in a typical European hotel room). And the ability to cook comes in handy if you do not want to spend a ton of money eating out for every meal since that will add up quickly.
One thing you will understand after staying in this apartment is what life is really like in Amsterdam. There is a reason why people in Amsterdam are in great shape, and are not overweight. If you climb stairs in the average Amsterdam apartment a few times a day, you will be in great shape. Everyone bikes and walks everywhere too (watch out for the motorbikes/scooters which now ply the bike lanes if the rider is helmetless). The stairs for this apartment were typical of those you would probably run into in an average Amsterdam apartment, but they are somewhat steeper than an American would ever run into. Another thing you will note is there is a reason bathrooms are called "water closets" in Europe. The bathrooms are very tight, and in the US they would be in a room we would call a closet.
The apartment has a washing machine, and a dishwasher, and we made use of both. It has a cook top, but not an oven, which may limit the food options you want to prepare. I should also note it has a single cup coffeemaker, which was very handy. As for the neighborhood the apartment is located in, it is very nice. There is a restaurant called Cafe Toussaint that is just a few steps away; we ate there twice for dinner and it was superb. There are a couple of other cafes on the street, and there is also a bakery nearby (great Pane Au Chocolat). The apartment is also located fairly close to the museums and the outer canal ring. You can walk to Central Station in around a half hour or so.
The best feature of the apartment is the landlord - Karin. She is just great to work with, and she will treat you like family. Other notes: the WiFi worked great and the cable television was handy since we caught coverage of the London Olympics via BBC and also a Dutch station.
