After reading all the reviews I was dubious about going to the hotel last month. The hotel is very, very, very cheap. I paid £65 to stay there for 4 nights, which works out as £16 a night. For this I thought it was going to be awful, but, our room was clean, the shower was hot and the bathroom was in a good condition.

The main problem with our room was that it was a bit dingy- this was because the window faced onto another hotel which you could practically step across too, and there were some strange marks on the wallpaper by the door!

The staff were friendly, and we arrived early and flew out very late- they let us keep our bags in reception. Our room was even ready before check in. I will be honest, we heard rumours of mice- but I never saw/heard any!

The location is excellent, if your on a tight budget i would give it a try.

OK, so I'm just back from spending 4 days /3 nights in the worst hotel I've ever stayed in!! I have to agree with others on this site.

The rooms don't resemble the pictures at all, the rooms where grubby, dingy and depressing and it's the only time I've been worried about the cleanliness of the bed linen!

I can totally see why they want you to pay upfront - they want your money before you see the dump that this place is!!!

I agree again that the breakfast from the restaurant next door was pitiful, stale bread and cereal!! I've taken photos to prove the mess!!

we asked to change rooms which helped a bit. But then the water stopped working and we had none!! - hot or cold - couldn't even flush the loo!!

we were also told that we were not allowed food in our room - we asked why and were told by the desk staff that it may attract rodents!!!

one of my friends was wakened from his sleep by a scratchy noise from behind his bed!!

All in all, a horrendous experience - in our opinion the place should be shut down!!

worse than a very poor youth hostel - take it's star away and close it!!

Ann Cochrane(disgusted!)

I booked this hotel for my recent trip to Amsterdam. There were over 10 of us going and the plan was to party and just have a good break from work. I chose Manofa Hotel because: it was centrally loacted/it was fairly cheap/it had rooms available.
Now I didnt expect too much as at this price in most central location you couldnt get anything else, well I wasnt wrong...
Hotel itself is located very well on Damrak main tourist place in Amsterdam. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the price was nice as well - also have to mention that rooms were cleaned every day so a plus for that!
All the positive things to say end there, rooms are tiny and in poor condition. All of them must have been decorated in the 40's (see the picture) and to make it look like from a cheap horror movie everything is lit by only one 40W bulb to give the room that unforgetable yellowish glow. All other lights were not working.
Also we were given a room right in the corned in the back - supposed to be the quiet part of the hotel. Well if that was the quiet one then I dont want to see the ones in front of the building. If you are into barely lit old hotel rooms where you can listen to hard sex arguing and puking all nite long then this is a place to be ;-)

The only thing going for this hotel is the location - straight down the road from the main train station in Amsterdam, and right in the heart of the shopping street, with food stalls etc etc.

The breakfast they offer included in the price is downstairs in the neighbouring pizzeria and this is so huge with a big variety, you will eat like a king!!!

As far as the room goes - it sucked. Our wardrobe door fell off, you can hear everything outside the room, the view is non-existent, the space is none, the bathroom is small, the mouse that comes at night is intrusive and hungry!!!

The reception is very helpful and speak English so there is a plus. The stairs are narrow but then that is all through Amsterdam, so can't complain.

  • Liked — Location and huge tasty breakfast
  • Disliked — The mouse, the beds, the lack of comfort

This hotel is not the ritz but its location and prices were good i knew it wasnt the best from the reviews i had read prior to going but all i was looking for was a clean bed and a decent shower and thats what i got i have to admit the room could have done with a make over. We did not have any mice trouble and niether did the other people that i spoke to maybe we were lucky!!! the staff were freindly, the food wasnt the best but then again ur paying cheap prices to stay in the heart of amsterdam. if ur looking for mod cons forget it
