There isn't much that I can add to all of the glowing reviews already posted here . . . I spent a whole week in the "Nest," a small one-bedroom apartment on the top floor of a canal house just a few doors north of Nieuwmarkt. The location was terrific, it had all the elbow room I needed, it was really well-furnished, and the large living room windows looked straight down over a canal and street. I felt like I was "living" in Amsterdam for a week, instead of just "visiting."
The service was great. Despite being a smoking apartment (the company caters heavily to smokers of various . . . things), it was impeccably clean. I'm pretty low-maintenance, so I didn't wind up needing/asking much from the staff during the week - but when I did, they were always very quick to respond and were really friendly about it.
One caveat: tall people may be better off in one of Amsterdam Escape's other units. Being 6'3, I managed to bump my head quite a few times on the beams that stretched across the A-frame apartment. The stairways up to the apartment looked really daunting at first, but I got used to them quickly after the first climb (thankfully, the staff had already carried my luggage up for me). Also, because I'm used to sleeping on an extremely luxurious bed at home, it was a big adjustment to the much thinner mattresses there, but I can't honestly hold that against Amsterdam Escape (I'm just spoiled in that respect).
Euro for Euro, Amsterdam Escape blows any ordinary hotel in the city out of the water. It's not even a contest. I'll gladly head back for another stay.
