“Private room en suite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2011 via mobile

Two single beds I combined to make a queen. Nice and quiet compared to previous stays as I was in 301 which is by the lesser used back stairs and away from the noise of the lobby and bar. Tiny bathroom that you almost have to sit at an angle on the toilet since the sink juts out in front of it. Shower barely big enough to turn around. Tv worked but next to no volume. Little fridge even though you're not supposed to have food in the rooms.

although the hostel is found in probably the very center of a'dam. the rooms were not possible to make any smaller for 4 people. i stayed there for 4 nights and i actually suffered from the extremly poor quality of the room. shower and toilet arent seperated and stink. there is a good vibe downstairs at the bar with many high people of course. the most annoying part of this crappy hostel is that the staff were useless and not nice. it is not allowed to bring in guests no matter how hard u try! from "security reasons"... but when i bought an extra bed in my room for extra payment of course they didnt even bother to ask for his ID.some security huh?

Only stayed at the Flying Pig hostel because my team were staying here so we could all leave for a sporting event the next day.

The good: free wifi, pool table, bar, come and go as you wish.
The bad: smoking, horrible shared shower room, not very secure lockers under the bed.
The ugly: I was itching after my 2nd night there - yuk!

If you're on a super tight budget, then go for it.

Located minutes away from the central train station. There is a bar and a pool table in the lobby. Very friendly staff. Decent breakfast.

This is an awesome place located right in the smack middle of amsterdam right near central station, which is great if you arrive (as i did) on the train. Clean, friendly and well run. You barely need to leave the hostel to have a great night out. The bar is great, jager bombs going off left and right every night and it's definitely the cheapest place to drink i've been able to find in amsterdam. I came for two nights, but it was so great i canceled the next leg of my trip and stayed a week. The staff and other guests are some of the most interesting and cool people you'll ever meet.

But remember, this is a HOSTEL people. If you don't want to have a raging good time then this might not be the place. but if you do, this is the place to go. (however, they do have a number of private rooms that are perfectly quiet on the 2nd and 3rd floors)

Room Tip: The dorms are great, but they also have private rooms and smaller rooms. I stayed in both but honest...

Clean big hostel, bathrooms have hairdryers which is good and never had to wait for a shower. Stayed here 3 nights and everyone of those nights it was really busy in the bar. Staff are really nice and helpful. We are a couple and had our own double bed in a 14 bed dorm which was cool. Except for one of the nights when we came home to find someone else asleep in our bed! the staff quickly sorted it for us and even changec the sheets.

Wouldnt recommend this hostel if you want a quiet place to stay. We would definately come back, it is a great hostel to be based at to experience Amsterdam.

The Flying Pig was a great hostel to stay at, so long as you don't mind the smoking room with lots of stoners. The rooms were clean and there was a locker under the bunk beds (lock needed, but you can rent from the front). The beds were pretty comfortable as well and we had a washroom & shower in the room. The room was cleaned each day a new person moved in which is pretty often. The stairs up to the rooms are steep but you are in amsterdam and these are how the houses are built!

The smoking room was pretty much busy all the time with people smoking up and smoking cigs. The air gets pretty thick in there but there is a small deck at the back where you can get some fresh air.

The main floor has a bar with great specials every day. It was a great place to chill and have a drink. We played pool in the front area and on some nights they bring in a DJ who plays some great music! They also serve breakfast in the morning, there were some pastries, cereal, toast and some fruit. We did discover a bakery that makes delicious buns and pastries on the main Damrak road (don't remember the name but you can just walk down Damrak a bit and you'll see it). The free breakfast was nice but the bakery is worth the money and it's not expensive! They also have free earplugs at the front desk which is a great thing to have at a hostel!

Overall the FP was in a great location and close to everything. I would stay here again!!
