This apartment is rented through Flipkey FK344905, through StayAmsterdam (Singel 70) and through the Short Stay Group Amsterdam (2040).
We picked up the keys from the rental agency, and walked back to the apartment. The apartment is a few blocks away from Centraal station, but the agency is about 15 minutes from the apartment. There are prettier streets to stay on in the inner canal district. This particular area of Singel canal is not at all picturesque.
We couldn't believe what we had gotten into- the entry way is slum, the shared stairs and hallways are slum. Scary slum. Dark, not charming slum. Look at the photos.
The apartment is not as advertised. We were told only one bedroom was reached by a ladder. It turns out TWO of the bedrooms require ladders, and the ladder to one of the bedrooms has 10 rungs, and the other has 6 rungs. In our party of four, only one of us could handle going up and down ladders, so this rental, on that very reason alone, was a total bust.
We could not/did not stay in this apartment, and I am ever so glad we didn't. Besides the awfulness of the common areas (look at the photos! How could anyone spending so much money for an apartment ever think this is a decent place to stay?), there are things I noticed about the apartment which made me so glad we didn't stay there.
1. One of the bedrooms (with a ladder) is tucked under the eaves, and although it has a small window, the window can't be opened. We were there when it was about 60 degrees outside, and that bedroom was stifling and suffocating. I would get claustrophobic and overheated very quickly.
2. The throws on the furniture are shabby and worn. Some of the furniture is shabby and worn.
3. One of the bedrooms (with a ladder), is a child's room, and decorated to suit a young child, and not in a princess sort of way.
4. There are many markings on the walls that have been covered with paint- as if a young child had scribbled. It doesn't look very nice. Neither do all the scuffs along the apartment's staircases.
It's hard to describe this apartment. Parts of it are absolutely charming, top-notch, and photograph beautifully, but the common entryway, stairs and hallways are horror-show. If we had stayed here, I would have dreaded leaving and entering the building.
I have more photos to share, but am limited to only 10 in this review. Of note, for those of a more modest bent, there are a few paintings of naked women, including pubic hair, throughout the apartment. These aren't subtle paintings; it's full frontal. I think they add an artistic flavor, but at the same time, I'm glad I wasn't sharing this apartment with my Midwest in-laws.
