A really worthwhile detour for the gorgeous, preserved Portuguese synagogue. Beautiful architectural details, interesting history, not just the sanctuary, but the outbuildings as well. Was not crowded in April; don't know what the summer would be like.
Especially if you go to the Jewish Museum (another interesting attraction), don't miss this, which is pretty much across the street.
