“Beautiful Old house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Great to see the interior of an old Canal house. I love to see these places still looking like a family home, with pictures of its more recent residents, and a modern twist in some of the art on show continuing the buildings history from a pupil of Rembrant. Having the garden refurbished in period style is a nice touch, and the stables/coachhouse is great. They should make more of the cafe they have in there though.

“A spectacular building!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

A chance to get a glimpse behind the facade of a grand canal house. The pretty garden and coach house stables at the rear of the building are a contrast to the busy canalside at the front. The entrance price should be reduced on days where rooms are being used for functions and are therefore unaccessible.

“Nice house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

It is small as museums go, but well-maintained. For the size of the two buildings, 8 Euro per person may not seem like a good deal, but I was happy we stopped in to check out what life in that house may have been like many years ago. The horse room (and tack displays) were interesting.

“Cute but not worth 8 Euros”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

This elegant canal mansion with its famous family heritage is a cute short visit across the FOAM Museum in Keizergracht. The home is a 20min maximum visit. The home-museum needs some serious housekeeping. The museum is totally effortless. It would have sufficed to have a media showing of the merchant history of the city and the family who founded the famous East Indies Co.just to have the visitors acclimate with the environment. Instead in two upper rooms there were multiple flat screens with incomprehensible images of indigenous life. Am I missing something?

“Peek into the past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

Preserved canalside home of wealthy founder of East India Trading Co. Formal garden between house and coach house. During our visit there was a contemporary art exhibit with an art work by one artists in each room. Interesting ideas connecting past and present that enriched our visit.
