I think this was the most elegant, imaginative and interesting hotel I've ever stayed in. The design was quite beautiful and intriguing from the lobby to the spa to the room. It's hard to imagine how the service could have been any more attentive or thoughtful. You suddenly enter a world where if you want something, within reason, you know it's going to happen, and there's a real relaxation into that sense of being taken care of. The breakfast was delicious. The swimming pool and sauna were beautiful, and the room spacious and luxurious. The bed was huge and incredibly comfortable. My only critique, which is really more of me than the hotel was I couldn't work all the gadgets to open the curtains and turn on the TVs - one of which was IN the mirror in the bathroom- and the doors were so smoothly integrated into the walls i couldn't find them half the time ! Also, the price - by my standards at least, it was eye wateringly expensive, but then the level seems to be quite high in Amsterdam if you want a reasonably decent hotel and this wasn't massively above the average for reasonably decent hotels.

We spent our wedding night in one of the suites of this lovely hotel. Lovely experience with great arrangements by the hotel to make our day even more special. From the welcome with champagne to all the surprises in the room and the great breakfast and late check out. The van Baerle suite is a great suit!! Everything was very well arranged and I would definitely recommend this hotel. Special thanks as well to the great staff (Floris de Wit in particular) for their flexibility and help. In my opinion, it is the service, which makes this top hotel the best hotel in Amsterdam!

The room was fabulous. Unlike some previous reviewers, the technology worked fine for us. We especially liked the location. Away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas and within 2 minutes of the museums. The neighborhood was lovely. The tram was right across the street when we didn't want to walk. The overall service was excellent, exactly what you would expect in a 5 star hotel. Everyone was pleasant and friendly and not the least bit uppity or aloof as in some expensive hotels. The breakfasts were yummy. We did not eat in the restaurants but we did have drinks in the lobby. Try the gin and tonic! Special thanks to host Etan Sela. He made recommendations and reservations for dinner each night. His choices suited us perfectly and the food in each restaurant was delicious. The Conservatorium is well worth the expense and I would recommend it to anyone.

I spent 4 nights there and also looked at other hotels in the City. At the end of the stay I felt that I made the right decision. The lobby breakfast service with special order eggs was a treat every day but happy that is was included in the rate.
The reception staff was most welcoming and very young and fun.
"Host" is another name for Concierge and they always handled my requests efficiently.
All the door crew were friendly and helpful.

My only regret is that they don't have a first class restaurant . The lobby place is great for breakfast and lunch but pretty bland for dinner. I guess they want you to venture out.

Room Tip: book AX travel for upgrade and breakfast included

A beautiful property in the heart of Amsterdam which has taken an old building, added some beautiful modern additions which complement and blend in with the age of the building.

Service throughout our stay was genuine and helpful and at times went beyond our expectations. We were a group of ten friends staying in the hotel and all the different room types were lovely. For a short stay we opted for a cheaper room which was accommodated as a duplex in the eaves of the building. The room was very comfortable and well thought out and the only thing which was a let down, was the steep staircase to the mezzanine bedroom above. All fine during the day but to go downstairs during the night needed to be a very careful decent.

The spa and gym are beautiful and very well appointed. The breakfast buffet and a la carte offerings are vast and very tasty. Drinks service for some reason throughout the hotel was always slow, not sure what that was about but trying to have a quick cocktail before going out was frustrating.

I do like service where staff accommodate you outside of the usual. We got back to the hotel one evening a little late for the restaurant but didn't want to eat room service in our room. Without asking, we were offered a seat in the bar and the option to order room service and have it delivered to the bar area. This may be normal practise but unless it had been offered, we would not have known about it.

The location of the hotel is great for museums, shopping and restaurants.

After taking two trains from Oldenburg, Germany to Amsterdam, my husband and I took a taxi to the Conservatorium Hotel. Upon arrival, the door man greeted us and carried our bags to the reception desk. While checking in, he offered beverages, hot towels and was extremely friendly/hospitable. The receptionist was kind and noted that we had requested a feather free room in our reservation. The concierge escorted us to our room (Grand Deluxe Duplex), he was friendly and informative. He asked if we preferred fahrenheit or celsius and set the thermostat to accommodate us. He explained the television and gave us a tour of the two level room. He reminded us that the second bathroom is upstairs and that it had been overlooked in the past, almost like a secret door.

The room was beautiful, great view of the busy street. Two curtains (daytime sheer curtain and a heavy drape for night). All functioned electronically.

As mentioned above, the receptionist noted we requested a feather free room. The pillows and comforter were beautiful but were not feather free. With a severe allergy to Down, I request a feather free room every time I visit a hotel. When I brought this up to the concierge, they referred me to the reception desk... they apologized and said they would take care of it right away. Upon our return to our room (a few hours later after checking out the town), the bedding had been replaced.

There is a mirror in front of the stairwell, very elegant looking.... however, I wasn't expecting to see myself in the mirror when walking down the stairs and scared myself wondering who was in the room :) My husband did the same thing and we laughed.

The second floor shower was nice but a bit smaller than the first floor shower. The first floor shower was nice , but both of the shower heads could be cleaned a little better. The water shot out in various directions instead of straight down (both were rainfall shower heads). There were a few small pieces of debris on the bathroom floors when we arrived, nothing offensive.

The bathroom mirror had a built in stereo type deal with a remote to change channels. To change the channel, the remote had to be pointed directly at the small receiver at the bottom of the screen. After figuring this out, it was a little easier to use... could definitely use some improvement however it was a very cool and new-age type option.

The hallway was extremely hot (5th floor). It was also very beautiful, quite an elegant look.

We were very impressed with the hotel ... aside from the feathered bed, small debris on the floor and the shower heads, the hotel room was amazing. Very trendy and cool.... would definitely stay again if we visit Amsterdam again.

The bike rentals were more expensive at the hotel than offsite... I believe the hotel was $25 per bike per day and the offsite rentals were around $10. I am not entirely sure of the hours, time, etc... but it was definitely less expensive offsite.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant. We stopped by the bar but felt slightly underdressed in denim and dress shirt / blouse. The women were wearing tight. shorter dresses and the men were wearing casual business slacks/ties. Looked beautiful but we went to the Aran Pub instead (also friendly staff, good service). The hotel said it also had a second floor smoking section in the bar area.

Overall, the hotel was very nice and has a beautiful ambiance. Friendly and helpful staff and quick response times to any requests.

Room Tip: The Grand Duplex Room was beautiful with a great view. Other reviews said to request a corner room...

This must be the best new hotel in Amsterdam, and good value for money. Very cool and trendy, well located, loved the duplex suite, and a very lively bar. Top recommendations from the concierge of new places to go (as I have been in Amsterdam lots of times), would definitely stay there again!
