“Extraordinary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

This is THE hotel for your stay in Amsterdam. We've stayed at others and Amsterdam has its share of great hotels, but first time here and we are hooked. From the professional and friendly door men to the courteous, efficient and knowledgeable front-desk staff everyone aimed to please. The lobby is so inviting and relaxing and feels a world apart from the hustle-bustle of the city. Our two-story suite was spacious and comfortable. Bathrooms were sleek and spacious. Closets were ample. (Get initial instruction on the lighting in the bathrooms, we never did figure it out.).
The gym and the spa are superior. The below-ground in-door pool and jacuzzi are a genuine retreat and the spa staff are all well trained.
The overall conversion of the exisitng historic bank building was done first rate, preserving the historic integrity and adding the highest quality contemporary features. Even if you don't get to stay here, stop in the lobby for a drink.
Two restaurants that we visited, both excellent. The fine-dining restaurant is top notch, with pricing to match. Not the venue for "a quick dinner" but if you have the time and are prepared for the price, you are sure to be pleased.
We look forward to returning.

We came with are 2 teenagers for a few days in Amsterdam. We chose the talked about Conservatorium Hotel. We loved the location, around the corner from stylish P.C Hoofstrat street and the museums. The hotel is stunning and our room was lovely. We chose one with a terrace (Amsterdam, smoke..).
We enjoyed the breakfast, beautifully presented and sooo tasty, we took the hotels bicycles for a ride around town, and Eitan the concierge arranged for us a private boat which our kids "drove" thru the canals. What can I say!? One of our best vacations ever. We all can't wait for our next visit.

Very high standard, can't really fault anything. Great service from the moment you arrive.
Shown to your room and every control explained and demo'd.
Interior design is excellent.
Both dinner and breakfast were of a very high standard.

This is a beautiful hotel. First impressions were amazing - the lobby and restaurant area is simply an incredible space to be in (the photos do not do it justice!). We were escorted personally to our room by the concierge, who took some time to explain the hotel facilties, the room and its technology. This was helpful as the technology system was complicated (for example, the light switch "keypads" were not clealy marked). The size of the bathrooms and quality of the fittings in them are the best we have ever seen in any hotel.

However, there were a few niggles which spoiled these first impessions a little. At check-in, the staff member spent some time on the computer and appeared to be looking for a vacant room for us. We were told that we would receive an upgade because or room was "not ready" ( we arrived at the hotel at approximately 2pm). However, the room we received was the same one we had booked (grand duplex suite), which was disappointing. When we were first brought to our room the housekeeping staff were still restocking the minibar and the cot for our five month old son had not yet arrived (which we had pre-booked).

From thereon, there were ongoing minor problems with housekeeping, which, in our opinion, stopped the hotel from being a truly 5 star experience. For example:
- there were a few small items on the floor which had not been cleaned up when we first arrived (bottle caps, coins);
- the turn down service was not comprehensive, and at times a little careless (for example, the outer blankets on the bed were not made up);
- used plates and wine glasses were not removed from the room and simply re-arranged;
- housekeeping would ring the door bell at strange times of the day and enter the room (although were apologetic when they realised we were in the room). In one case, this was to "check on the room".

A few additional niggles also left us feeling the hotel came up a little short:
- evident miscommunication between staff: our luggage was misplaced enroute to checkout (quickly located) and I was left waiting in the spa for my masseuse who had not been notified of my arrival (my wonderful masseuse - a miracle worker - also appeared miffed at this faux pas!); and
- wireless access required a daily login, which required a daily trip to reception for the pass. Annoying and unecessary (I note another reviewer has made the same complaint).

Other than these issues, the overall experience of the hotel was fantastic and the price tag (465 euros per night, inclusive of breakfast) for the room was justified. In particular, the bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable we have ever experienced in any hotel. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others. Next time, we hope that the service can match the exceptional standard of the other areas of the hotel.

A few tips:
- hotel transfers are overpriced (100euro approx) and not worth it: every taxi in Amsterdam is a mercedes or BMW and immaculate, with the trip from Schipol costing about 40 euros
- Do not fear taking your little ones to the hotel: our five month old son was warmly welcomed and so were other children that we sighted. Note, however, that the acoustics of the lobby and restaurant amplified any cries!
- the high tea is exceptional (we ordered it in-room) and we highly recommended.

We stayed in a Grand Duplex suite for 7 nights. The room was very large and the bedding was extremely comfortable. The service with the exception of the bags being very slow to arrive at the room was excellent. Breakfast was included in our rate (book through Design Hotels.com) and was fantastic. The rain shower was wonderful and hot water was almost immediate.

The Spa was fantastic! The pool area (complimentary water & fruit) was very stylish but the heated pool was around 78 degrees fahrenheit and the hot tub around 98. Neither warm enough. Sauna was very good and very clean.

A view minor items:
The hallways were very warm. There appears to be no cooling of the interior hallways. Probably great in the winter but not so much during warmer weather.

Wifi is included but you have to get a new code everyday and it doesn't always work the first time. After 3 or 4 days it becomes a little annoying.

We stayed in a room along Van Baerlestraat and this meant a long walk from the elevator each time we wanted to come and go.

There are tram stop along two sides of the building making it very convenient to use trams.
But if you are a light sleeper you may want to ask for a room on the side street.

Our room was two levels but the upper level is a loft so you can still hear anyone downstairs and the air conditioning vents are only upstairs. Once the room cooled down this wasn't a problem.

The built in closets were very sleek, but it would have been nice to have a dresser either upstairs or down or both.

The toilet seats on both toilets were square and not comfortable at all.

The televisions were very nice but had almost no US network channels.

Room Tip: If the tram noise may bother you, ask for a room that faces the one side without a tram stop. You w...

This is truly an excellent hotel. Very high standard and kind service, great interior design, best bathroom I've ever experienced in a hotel (both of them, actually, the suite had two) and a wonderful bed, great breakfast and top notch location (stone throw away from high end p.c hooftstraat shopping, Concert Hall, Stedelijk Museum, van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum). I highly recommend it

Stayed in a grand duplex suite in this very cool hotel, a thoroughly contemporary design within a restored building which was in former lives a bank and then a music conservatory. They've done a really impressive job with the conversion including roof glazing the inner courtyard which now houses the reception, the bistro and lounge areas - above all the height of the interior space together with other design features creates a pretty dramatic setting coupled with a relaxing ambience.
We arrived in Amsterdam on an early morning flight and reached the hotel at around 09.45. We were very impressed at being able to check in and access our room straight away. The staff were thoroughly polite and welcoming throughout our stay and couldn't do too much for us.
Our room was on two levels with a mezzanine floor and second en suite. It was very comfortable with Occitane toiletries and complementary Nespresso coffee and like the rest of the hotel oozed style! The breakfast in the bistro area comprised an extensive buffet with additional hot choices to order and was served until 11.30 - very civilised!
The hotel has a great range of facilities including bar, bistro and fine dining restaurants, and spa and pool. Our stay was all too short as a weekend break and I can't speak highly enough of the overall guest experience - highly recommended.

Room Tip: Splurge on a suite!
