After reading all of the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, we were really looking forward to a special meal. We went with a reservation, but the table offered was probably the worst location in the restaurant. We did get it changed to a better location, but it was disappointing that we had to ask. Our waitress was nice and helpful. She explained what some of the dishes were. Our first course was the highlight. Scallops and their seafood salad. The main course was too big even by American standards. The restaurant was very crowded and that caused the inside tables to be stuffy and hot and really pretty uncomfortable. We were hoping for better, but sometimes a restaurant just has an off-night. Lets hope that is all it was.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Tripadvisor. I wish to set some things straight about your dinner with us, firstly by discussing the table we had booked for you. I understand that you didn't like your table, but almost everyone inside the restaurant had a reservation, and we are always happy to help you find another table, which I did in a further fully booked dining room. Furthermore, some people do like the table we had reserved for you, whereas they don't like to sit near the door/bar/wine cooler/stairs/window and so on. We do our best to accomodate everyone's needs (and in your case we succeeded), but we can't guess what you like beforehand. Regarding the food, I know our portions are of good size. This is in first place because we are a brasserie. Our concept is a proper portion of simple, yet good food, in a nice environment with good service. Nothing special, no nouvelle cuisine with tiny bits of meat accompanied by jellies and other haute cuisine innovations, just a good plate of food. The portions are also on the big side because some of our guests decide to have mains only and we don't want them to leave hungry. A last reason for our portion size is that we believe that too much is better than not enough, and believe it or not, some weeks ago a review was posted here on Tripadvisor complaining that the rack of lamb and beef stew, exactly what you had, were not big enough! I don't really understand why you would complain about a meal being too big, in the end you spent 100 euros on two courses per person with a bottle of good wine and water, and you didn't leave hungry. I trust that the food and service were good, because after changing your table I personally checked whether everything was okay, to which you stated it was. If you would have directed your complaints to me, I could maybe have done something about it. One last thing is about the atmosphere in our dining room, it was indeed busy yesterday night, and a little too warm. I wish we could have A/C in our building, but since the room is 350 years old and a state monument, this is unfortunately not allowed. In conclusion, I realize that we can't keep everyone happy in this business, but I really was convinced that after you moved tables everything was to your liking. In our minds, we didn't have an off day, we had a great day. Our apologies that we couldn't share this feeling with you.
