Perhaps because it's a little bit out of the way and far from the more popular attractions, the Tropenmuseum doesn't get enough visitors as it should.
Formerly known as the Dutch Colonial Museum, its impressive exhibits display artifacts from the former Dutch colonies, and other places that's within the Tropic of Capricorn and Cancer. The museum doesn't sugarcoat topics on colonialism, slavery, race relations and independence movements. The topics are well-presented and gives you a clear view about Holland's murky relationship with its former colonies, and subsequently the immigrants.
It's very fascinating and educational. A must-visit for history buffs worldwide.
