“MUST SEE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Spent hours in this museum - so much to see. Wide range of information available. Found the films and articles of the dutch colonial past disturbing (I am from the caribbean) but there's a lot more to see in this museum including history and articles on a wide range of countries. Also interesting are the views and experiences of present day immigrants and their children who were born in holland.

“A day in Amsterdam!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

A little jumbled and concentrating on the colonies but well described and welcoming and friendly staff. The availability of a wheelchair for the elderly would have been a welcome addition. The availability of lockers was great but they cost 50 euro cents. No concession for pensioners but definitely concessions for young people.

“Third World Countries in a building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

The building self is wonderful and the collection is great. Very informative. You can spend the whole day to learn the art or culture of the third world countries. Most of these countries were ever been colonized by the Dutch Government in the past. That's why the collection of countries such as Indonesia, Papua, Suriname are tremendous.
This museum has a permanent exhibition and in the middle hall, there is also a thematic exhibition that always changed in a period of time. I always make a stop by this special place in the "mexico" corner. It is a place where you can see ( through the magnifying glass) the tiny figures in the carnival costumes that's made from toothpicks.
You can bring your children as this museum has children departement. Sometimes they organized activities special for children only (parents may not take a part of it) so you can enjoy the museum by yourselves while the children are busy with their activities.
