We booked this hostel because it was the cheapest we could find, and cheap is unquestionably the operative world. Certainly do not stay here if you are a female travelling alone, this hostel is run by a rotating staff of scuzzy men who are entirely unconcerned with enhancing your hostel experience in any capacity, the "awesome bar" is basically a sportsbar full of drunken ogling older dudes cheering at the television screen. The pillows are like rocks, the "lockers" are oil barrels which are unspeakably loud at five in the morning when people are coming in and out, sound carries down the hallways like you cannot even imagine, the bathrooms are filthy and smell alternately like piss or bleach, breakfast is 2.50 extra and if you're staying at this hostel because you want to save money & cook for yourself, you'll sooner drop ten euros at a restaurant than cook in their kitchen which is right off the bar, stinks of cigarettes, and is like a science project on determining how quickly bacteria cultures can grow in accomodating environments. The "great location" is a derelict stretch of sex stores and unnerving side alleys.
The only person we "met" at the Meeting point was a girl freaking out on mushrooms 2 days in a row, who cornered us at the bar and then sat outside the bedrooms screeching until six in the morning, long after her travelling companions had abandoned her in disgust.
This place is full of evil vibes. You will stay out superlate in spite of exaustion because you don't want to come back here. The minute we cleared out our trip improved tenfold. YOU CAN DO BETTER FOR EVEN TWO OR THREE MORE EUROS A NIGHT: SERIOUSLY, DON'T BOTHER.
Great location! lots of stairs to the top floor though, ouch!
Great 24 hour bar, good music, was great to relax there. Nice to go somewhere when you are fried and not feel like you have to buy something.
Loved the guys that worked there. They were friendly and helpful. Loved the guy who checked us in.
No complaints here, it was clean, and beds were just sooo comfy somehow! We all slept well. Lockers are loud but at least you felt secure with your belongings inside.
12 in a room isnt bad, actually for 2 nights i didnt hear a thing.
So, great place at good price, i will be back!
Advantages:
*Cheap (14 Euro per night in 2002)
*Big/Secure lockers
*24 hour bar for hostel residents only
*Close to Central Station/Red Light District
*Staff is friendly and allow outside food, your own smoke, and let you bug out if you need too.
*A good home base for coffee shop touring
Disadvatages:
*Huge Dormitories packed with beds
*Bathrooms dirty
*You will inevitably sleep next to a snorer!!
Over all I'd recomend it. The bar is a real bar (not a lounge that has beers behind the desk) and a great place to meet people. The play good music, and serve cheap beer (on tap).
