“Good budget hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2010

This hotel is great if you are on a budget and are only staying a couple of nights. We stayed here for 1 nt as part of a Dfds cruise minibreak and it was ideal.

The location was not bad. Great for being close to the Van Gaugh museum & also the leidseplein where you will find plenty of bars, restaurants & a cpl of clubs but quite a distance from Dam Square. It took us about 50min - 1hr to walk (slowly) to Dam Square but you could get tram 1, 3 or 5 which would take you directly there. There is a market not far from the hotel which was fantastic, it sold everything you could imagine at a very cheap price!

The rooms at the hotel were quite small but clean and I found the beds to be very comfy! The breakfast was ok, toast, ham, cheese, boiled egg, cereal, yoghurt & fruit. Not bad to start you off for the day!

I would defo recommend this hotel for mostly everyone except people with walking difficuilty as the steps at the entrance of the hotel were the steepest I have experienced but overall it is a good little hotel!

Hotel has a great location, just next ot the Van Gogh Museum. Staff friendly. Very steep steps going up to the reception from the street, and also going up to the rooms. The room was clean, however, it was very long and thin, which was a bit weird. The biggest problem was, however, the narrow beds. Looking at them, they look normal, but once in bed, you realise that they are seriously narrow. Unless you lie straight on the bed, and don't move at all, you're going to be uncomfortable. Breakfast was very busy, but food ok. If the beds were a normal width, I'd definately reccomend the hotel.

We went to Amsterdam for a few days and booked our hotel room at the tourist information right in front of the central station. It was the cheapest room for 3 people that they could offer us so we took it. From the outside it doesn't look very charming but ok for a 2 ** hotel. The stairs to the lobby and to the rooms are very steep but there's also an elevator (at least from the lobby to the rooms). The guy at the reception was friendly and gave us a quick instruction where to find what (room, restaurant, etc.)
The room was adequate for 2 **, I would say it's rather something for students or travelling friends than for families or couples. The beds are pretty low and the bathroom is very small, especially the toilet room.
We had the breakfast included so we went to the restaurant twice. There was different toast (dark, whole grain, white), rusk toast, crispbread, cheese, ham, salami, different cereals, yogurt, jams, nutella, honey, butter, coffee, cocoa and tea. All in all a pretty good selection.
The stay was ok but for somebody who's used to 3 *** hotels I wouldn't recommend going there. For backpackers or students it might be recommendable. An absolut advantage was the free wireless access and the central location right in the museum's district.

Located on a very quiet street, friendly staff, decent enough rooms and a basic breakfast to get you started. My only warning for this place is make sure you get your confirmation with price, we didn't for some reason and when it came to paying it was 120euros more than we expected.
Apart from this issue I would stay here again.

The hotel is located in an excellent spot, close to shops, parks, pubs/clubs and the tram line. I do agree with previous reviews in that the rooms are pretty small, but for a weekend break thats all you need. It is basic, but I found the staff to be friendly, the room and toilet clean and the overall service recieved value for money. If you are only planning on a short stay Id recommend this hotel due to its fab location.

We booked the hotel 2 days before we arrived through hoteliers on the internet and were quoted a price of 110 euros. When we got to the hotel the price of the room for that night was posted as 75 euros. Because we booked online we were told we had to pay the 110 euros. If we had phoned the hotel rather than booked online we would have gotten the lower price (that's what our friends had done). We felt that we were being punished for booking ahead and online. As far as the hotel was concerned it was clean (although one of our pillow cases was ripped) and the breakfast was quite good and included a number of options. The room was VERY small but the bed was comfortable and there was a bathroom in the room. When we walked into the lobby I noticed a distinct odour of cigarette smoke. Unfortunately though, our stay at the hotel was not particularly positive because we felt were treated poorly when we tried to talk to them about the price of the room. The whole experience has taught me to check with the hotel as well as online before i book through hoteliers again.

Our first stay at the Hotel Acro was 12 years ago and because we had a large airy room and the hotel is in an excellent location we decided to go back again this year-------what a disappointment.

We were given a double room on the third floor and our hearts sank when we walked into it. The first impression is that this is a single room with a double bed squashed up against the wall so consequently the unfortunate sleeping against the wall has to slide down the bed to get out. The space alongside the bed is so narrow that one of us had to stand at the bottom of the bed to allow the other to pass down the room to the tiny bathroom.

At the foot of the bed there is a small space which holds a shelf and two upright wooden dining type chairs, a hanging space for clothes but no drawers, so all in all a depressing room which we dreaded returning to in the evening. Another couple showed us their twin room which too was awful, this room was more like a corridor and the beds could only go lengthwise along the wall with the back of one headboard up against the back of the other, with again a narrow strip of floor to manouvre around.

I'm surprised DFDS still make use of this hotel ------I wonder if they have inspected it lately?
