“Too many steep stairways”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Booked this hotel on-line based on its location and price. The stairs to the entrance and to the breakfast room are very steep and the handrails are not great. It certainly is not be ideal for persons without some level of finess.
It is close to museums etc and walking in the area is pleasant. The room was smallish but very clean and comfortable.

There are some mixed views on this hotel, so wasn't sure what to expect. The reality was better than anticipated. The room was small -yes, but perfectly adequate for a couple. It was clean- not pristine, but clean. Nice boutique style room in contrast to the older style exterior.

Reception staff very nice and helpful. Only problem was the noise early in the morning, sounded like staff crashing about, not entirely sympathetic.

Having said that it is in a great location for Bars and Restaurants and near museums. It is a 30 min walk to the Central station, but trams etc pass frequently if you're not up to that walk.
Breakfast was a great choice of cereals, toast etc.

All in all would use again.

Room Tip: Get a room away from reception if you are able to negotiate the stairs.

The first thing you see when arriving is the very steep flight of stairs. Thank goodness our taxi driver helped us with our bag, and boy did he struggle!
Our room was matchbox small. We even booked a family room. No space for bags, stroller nor shopping. Rooms were clean and reception ok. We liked the idea that CHANEL boutique was right behind us :)

We stayed here for 1 night and will definitely be back. Room was absolutley spotless, just a little bit small thats all. Breakfast was good enough - continental style. Excellent location with great tram links. If you want something thats reasobably priced and confortable and you dont mind it being small, this is the place for you!

When I stayed at this hotel over three nights, there were a lot of renovations taking place and there was no bar or reception, just a tiny table acting as one. We arrived very early and were cheerfully waved in and allowed to checkin nearly two hours before time. I was happiest then!

The room was not as small as I thought it would be, and was very comfortable, and also quite modern. Yes, the stairs are quite something, but I saw it as just another 'experience'.

The location is brilliant, right in the heart of Museum District and within walking distance of the Rijskmuseum, the Van Gogh musuem and the famous 'I AMSTERDAM' signage. You are also a 15-minute tram ride away from the heart of the city, or Vondelpark.

Breakfast down in the basement is good without being great, though we met a whole bunch of interesting travellers there. Front office and reception staff is very friendly and gave us a lot of great suggestions, and also helped with great discounts .

Only letdown: On our last day we were rudely woken up by the hotel staff, and asked to clear out of the room. But the front desk allowed us another hour to pack up and were fairly relaxed about it. Also let us keep our luggage in the hotel as we had a long way to go before our flight out.

Close to the hotel is the entire shopping district and a lot of good places to eat, if you're not going into the rush of the red-light district and coffee shops.

A great part of my Amsterdam experience.

Very friendly staff/reception but...
Very basic accommodation with hardly any space to move, thin walls so very noisy, very basic breakfast (quick cleaning of the tables though) and the price... far from reasonable even for the location..... (not for disabled guests)
