“Very nice hotel, just renovated. Kind staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

We stayed for one night in a double room with a little balcony, facing the street. The whole place was very recently renovated and is in top condition. Our room was well equiped, especially considering that it is in Europe. We had TV, fridge and A/C! The room is small but that is pretty common in Amsterdam. If you´re travelling with a lot of luggage and / or take up a lot of room yourself you might face some difficulties, but as mentioned that is usual. The rooms are non-smoking and there is no smell of smoke anywhere.
We heard no inside noise, street noise is audible (not too bad) and should be reduced by new windows.
The staff is very courteous, the breakfast selection is not large but serves the purpose. All in all a good stay in a centrally located, well kept hotel. We´ve stayed at other places in the city, we´d come back here.
On a side note: The stairs are very steep, almost like a ladder. As a firefighter I enjoyed climbing them. If you don´t share the passion, ask for help with your luggage, the staff is willing to assist.

Room Tip: 301 faces the street and has a little balcony. We liked it.

We had a wonderful stay in this perfectly placed, well kept hotel. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The room was quite small, but perfectly usable and we had a balcony onto the street. The window and door could do with sealing to cut out road noise, and the twin style double should be strapped in some way to prevent seperation, but neither distracted us from probably returning to this charming residence in the future.

This hotel shares a street close to Dam Square with several other small hotels situated one or two floors above the street-level businesses. The rooms are amazingly tiny. My room included a twin bed, a shallow desk, and a chair that could not fit between the desk and the bed. The only place to put my luggage was on top of the desk. The bathroom was likewise tiny. The closet was about 8 inches deep, so not suitable for hanging clothes or much storage. However, it was very clean and all of the fixtures were in perfect shape, apparently recently remodeled. My room faced an inner courtyard that was very pretty. The staff was very friendly and volunteered to carry my small but heavy suitcase up the steep two stories of stairs from street level to the reception/breakfast area. Breakfast was minimal compared to most hotels, but adequate. Overall, good for a short stay if you have at most one suitcase and a backpack. (Double rooms might be roomier.)

Room Tip: In a single room, you cannot accommodate two suitcases.

The lady at the counter is very kind and speaks perfect English. The rooms are kind of small, but nice, clean and very comfortable. The price is normal for Amsterdam's costs especially considering that in ten minutes going slowly from the hotel you are in the most important and central square of the city. Fifteen minutes from the red light district and the chinese main streets. Just ten minutes away from Anne Frank's house.
I saw most of the pictures of the hotel in this website are old, so don't judge only based on those ones. They are now better looking, fresh and very clean.
The only main problem are the stairs to get from one floor to the next one. Very tall stairs with not a lot of space for the feet. Not for people with physical inabilities. Still, the hotel people are very kind and if you want some help with your luggage you just have to ask.
Good breakfast, mostly sweet stuff.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Clemens. Steep stairs on arrival, reception is on 1st floor, but we were very grateful that a nice employee insisted on carrying our baggage upstairs. Clean small room, we were at the front so was a little noisy with trams going by. Close to Dam Square and within walking distance of many attractions. Delicious breakfast, great choice available. Would definitely stay here in the future.

My boyfriend and I arrived in Amsterdam and were supposed to be staying in a hotel a block down from the Clemens hotel but when we arrived from the airport we realized that I had accidentally booked the wrongs dates and the only rooms they had available were a lot more expensive so we had to find somewhere else. We tried a few places but as we were on a tight budget and had already lost money from the mistake of our first booking we had to go to a couple of places before we found this place. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the most friendly staff who showed us a room, explained the price and that it included wifi and breakfast, we decided to stay here and we were absoloutely over the moon with the place by the end. The wifi service was terrific in the room, the breakfasts were huge and the gentlemen who served the breakfast each morning was constantly topping everything up even if it was only slightly needed he took so much pride in serving us, the staff are over accomodating, quick laundry service and even let us use their kitchen utensils to make our own dinner with stuff from the super market and insisted on doing our dishes even though I had tried to do them myself. We are currently staying in numerous hotels and hostels all over Europe and this is by far the best we have stayed at and we are so happy the service we were given that we would go back there in a heartbeat. Lastly the hotel is walking distance to everything, we didn't use public transport once and the hotel is also extremely modern it's just been renovated in the last month or so and everything is so new... You can even still smell the fresh paint in some areas. Again, highly recommend this place to anyone!

Small, conveniently located hotel. It has the ubiquitous steep stairs and the rooms are fairly small. It is extremely clean and the decor and furnishing appear to be new. Breakfast is standard Dutch fare. Staff very pleasant and professional. Highly recommended for the price.
