“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Stayed for 5 nights in November 14 at the hotel. Steps to the room are really steep so you need to be able to climb up and down to stay here! The room was clean but small. People were friendly and the hotel is very central for all sightseeing. It is just a few minutes walk from Dam square and about 10 mins to Leidesplein. So for the price it is definitely worth it as the location is great.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the canal are a little bigger.

Location great on the canal and the street not too busy. Rooms are small, basic but clean. If you just want somewhere to sleep then it's fine. Stairs are steep but they are everywhere in Amsterdam! Staff very friendly and helpful and breakfast was adequate. Would stay again

This is the first time we have stayed at the Hoksbergen. The staff were very helpful, and friendly. The location is brilliant, as just a short walk brings you into the centre of things. Trams are not far away either, so getting about is not a problem.

The rooms are simple but clean. The beds are a little small. The location is great. Easy access to all of the sites and convenient to dining in the Jordaan. They also have bikes to rent for the day. The stairs are narrow and steep so don't bring large suitcases.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2014

Stayed early October for 4 nights.
Location is great and easy to walk to everything that was important to my stay. Quiet location but close to the "buzz" of central Amsterdam.
This is your "typical" canal house hotel as I expected having been to Amsterdam before. My room was on the top floor and a hefty walk up many flights of stairs (again, as I expected).
My room was basic and small with 2 single beds. The room was "tired" and "worn" but clean. The bathroom small but renovated nicely.
The breakfast was very basic with little variety which was a bit of a disappointment after the great breakfasts I had in Greece before coming to Amsterdam.
The guys that run the hotel are very friendly, nice and welcoming. They seem to be trying really hard to make it a great place to stay.
I would stay here again for a few nights stay, but not for a longer stay.

This small hotel is in an excellent location on the Singel Canal, convenient to walking to many area sites. We booked a triple room for the two of us so we would have a bit more space and also a canal view. The staff is exceptionally helpful and recommended places to eat in the area. The bathroom was new and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was not fancy but was certainly adequate. Be aware that this is a budget hotel, and it could use a bit of paint and new carpet, but its location and congenial staff make up for those cosmetic needs.
