“Decent value. Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW via mobile

The rooms are simple but clean. The beds are a little small. The location is great. Easy access to all of the sites and convenient to dining in the Jordaan. They also have bikes to rent for the day. The stairs are narrow and steep so don't bring large suitcases.

Stayed early October for 4 nights.
Location is great and easy to walk to everything that was important to my stay. Quiet location but close to the "buzz" of central Amsterdam.
This is your "typical" canal house hotel as I expected having been to Amsterdam before. My room was on the top floor and a hefty walk up many flights of stairs (again, as I expected).
My room was basic and small with 2 single beds. The room was "tired" and "worn" but clean. The bathroom small but renovated nicely.
The breakfast was very basic with little variety which was a bit of a disappointment after the great breakfasts I had in Greece before coming to Amsterdam.
The guys that run the hotel are very friendly, nice and welcoming. They seem to be trying really hard to make it a great place to stay.
I would stay here again for a few nights stay, but not for a longer stay.

This small hotel is in an excellent location on the Singel Canal, convenient to walking to many area sites. We booked a triple room for the two of us so we would have a bit more space and also a canal view. The staff is exceptionally helpful and recommended places to eat in the area. The bathroom was new and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was not fancy but was certainly adequate. Be aware that this is a budget hotel, and it could use a bit of paint and new carpet, but its location and congenial staff make up for those cosmetic needs.

My 3 daughters and I had a cosy apartment in this hotel. I highly recommend it as a clean, basic accommodation with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The location was excellent, within walking distance of many attractions as well as to a supermarket.

Room Tip: You're in luck if your cell phone has a white noise app. The apartment fronts on a busy street.

My sisters and mother stayed in one of the four apartments that Hotel Hoksbergen offers. The apartments are across the canal from the hotel. The apartment was clean and basic, which suited our needs and the location was superb. The little street that the apartment is on is lively and we were on the ground floor, but with the window closed at night the street noise was less intrusive. It is a charming neighbourhood. One could walk to many attractions - Anne Frank House, The Dam, Flower Market, Canal Bus, Rembrandt's House, and several other museums - or take a tram to museums that were farther away. There is a very good grocery store nearby and the apartments are self-catering, which is a nice option. We found the staff at the hotel extremely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: If you want an apartment and are fine with steep stairs, I would recommend one not on the ground flo...

I really recommend going with this hotel. Actually, we ended up staying in one of the apartments they have in a building a short walk away (on the other side of the canal on the next side street). If you're looking for no-frills accommodation, for four or five people, I heartily recommend arranging one of their apartment rentals. Ours had a sitting area which also had a double and single bed; bunkbeds in a separate room; spacious bath; kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, glassware, plates, bowls, cutlery etc. The location is excellent--within walking distance of so many major attractions. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well. The only drawback was noise: people stomping upstairs late at night returning to the upstairs apartment, and street noise also late at night. This will be the case on any of the streets, I assume, however. It seemed like a way of life. A white noise machine would be a good idea!

Great hotel right in the heart of Amsterdam! Everything is walking distance from this hotel. We arrived by train and walked from the station to the hotel, took about 15 minutes. Takes 5 minutes to walk to The Anne Frank House, Dam Square, about 10 minutes to the red light district and the longest walk we did was about 25-30 minutes to the Heineken Brewery. Free Wifi worked great and the breakfast was fine too - continental (breads, cereals, cheeses etc). The staff were all so helpful and friendly. The stairs are very steep as its an old canal house, and the staff carried our bags up and down the stairs for us and we really appreciated it! Room was clean and just enough space for the 2 of us. Some other reviews have said that the rooms are too small...they're not, I've stayed in plenty that have been much smaller than this! Would definitely stay here the next time I'm in Amsterdam, could not fault this place.
