I recently returned from my second stay this year at the Hotel Keizershof. This stay was for 3 nights with my family in one of the rooms on the top floor, overlooking the gardens in the rear (very quiet). The Keizershof is a fantastic dutch B&B experience, with a wonderful family as your hosts. Location is fantastic, with great access to some of the best local dining and other attractions in Amsterdam. The tram stop is also very close to the hotel, 2 minutes walking distance. Stairs are very steep as expected in a canal house, so pack lightly.

Let me start by saying that the Hotel Keizershof has large, lovely, clean rooms with great views, is in a prime location, and serves a wonderful breakfast. Would I stay here again? Yes. Was it without problems? No.

You need to know right off the bat that this is not a hotel, no matter what they call it. This is a B&B. Don't expect a front desk with services; you're staying in someone's home with no phones and family members milling around. That's fine, but they do represent themselves as a hotel, and it's just not true. Yes, they do have a lounge with a t.v., but we were never invited to use it; usually the owner's daughter was playing in front of it and watching cartoons while we ate breakfast 5 feet away.

Also, forget the "4 rooms" and "65 euro" that you will see advertised elsewhere. They now have, as far as I can tell, between 8-10 rooms, and no room goes for less than 90 euros, even in the off season. Also, be aware that the fact that you are in an old house means thin walls and very creaky floors. Ask for a room on the very top floor to avoid the noise.

On the up side, the breakfast was wonderful, the rooms are quite clean and definitely huge, the views are great, the family is eccentric but friendly. If you like the European B&B experience, definitely stay here. If you need hotel amenities, try somewhere else.

This small hotel is very quaint and perfectly located. There is just something about sleeping in a canal house that was built in the 1640's! Mary and her daughter are excellent hosts. Our "Rita Hayworth" room was very clean and the breakfast each morning was great. The hotel has a definite B&B feel- it was fun eating at the breakfast table with the other guests talking about our Amsterdam experiences. Mary was particularly helpful, waiting up for us when we got lost while driving from Paris to Amsterdam and even arranging a taxi pick up for us. Amsterdam is a wonderful city- be adventurous! People in the service industry (hotels, etc.) will advise you not to rent bikes and will try to convince you that you will be run over, however, it is the ONLY way to see the city!

A great little B&B at a convenient location on one of the main grachts in central Amsterdam. Easily accessible to Rembrandtsplein & Leidseplein w/ the Spui Centre and the Reijksmuseum a short walk too. There's a train stop right near the Hotel as well. Street parking in front was readily available, but expensive. Proprietors are very knowledgeable of the area and quick to offer suggestions on sights & restaurants.

In typical European style, rooms tend towards the smaller side, but not uncomfortably small. Prepare yourself for bringing luggage up a tight, steep corkscrew staircase. Rooms facing the rear have a view of a peaceful garden courtyard (read: very quiet at night). Last: the breakfasts are great -- don't miss the omelettes.

Hosts were pleasant, and gave excellent touring advice concerning both Amsterdam and the Hague. Breakfast was quite good, and they even gave us a small bottle of wine for the evening. The stairs were quite steep, but that is simply the nature of canal houses. We had the Marlene Dietrich room -- The room was very comfortable and well-maintained.
