Its like a hidden treasure at the Canal Herengracht!: BEAUTIFUL! Never found any other hotel in this city which has such a perfect location, helpfull and warm staff and all that for a good price!
Its a mix of design, surprising details in an truely unique Amsterdam house, I just LOVED it!

my room was a small single-even the xl rooms are small,not worth the money and nowhere does it say you pay for breakfast!!

The hotel is located in Jordaan, beautiful district with very cozy restaurants. The hotel has modern looks, great breakfast, and the staff are nice and friendly. I stayed in room 342, which is in the third floor, and has two twin beds. The room was OK, but I do have to say that each bed was extremely small!!!! 68 cm wide (which is very small) I actually asked the staff if this was normal, and they said that in Amsterdam hotels it is normal. Apart from this, I would recommend the hotel, but I would make sure, before making the reservation that they book you a room with normal sized beds. Oh, also, the room rate doesn't include breakfast (which was 7 euros, more or less)

The excellent rating probably comes as a combination of many things in which chic and basic scores highly: value for money, location, friendliness of staff, breakfast. For me, what stood out was the excellent staff and the location near the Jordaan - this area is full of good bars and eateries, untainted by the commercial trashiness of the main drags of Amsterdam. In fact, Jordaan provides a whole new perspective on Amsterdam. Don't miss the gems that it has to offer. Chic and basic does exactly what it says on the tin and for that, it deserves its position as one of the most conveniently equipped and understated hotels in Amsterdam.
