I stayed here for 3 nights with my girlfriend and were both very impressed with this hotel.

We had a huge en-suite room at the front of the hotel with two large windows overlooking the canal - great in any hotel but especially good for only €89 a night!

The hotel is located in a lovely part of Amsterdam. Most of the attractions are less than a 20 minute walk away but you don't need to walk nearly that far for the excellent restaurants and bars on Utrechtsestraat (road running across the canal that the hotel is located on - seconds away).

The breakfast was basic but perfectly adequate.

In summary we'll definitely come back to Amsterdam and we'll definitely be staying in this hotel!

I stayed at Hotel Prinsenhof for two nights in July.

I made reservations directly with the property (I have this thing about contacting properties directly, out of fear of them losing my reservation) and everything was GREAT!

At first, I made the mistake of taking the wrong tram to the wrong Prinsengraht stop - several trams have this stop name - and ended up having to walk a half-mile to the right place. But when I got there, it was a delight. Beware, as the steps are VERY steep and very narrow, but don't let that deter you.

Once you find your room, you'll see that although the carpet is a little worn, and the closets might be musty -- the bed is very comfortable with soft downy sheets, and if you get a window, fresh air is wonderful in the morning. The bathrooms are clean and simple, bring flip flops. The breakfast is delicious - cheese, meats, biscuits, fresh tea/coffee served for you. The lady host is very sweet and accommodating; aside from her, there is not much conversation/thorough help from the staff.

Location is okay, as you can pretty much walk anywhere in Amsterdam. I'd suggest visiting the Anne Frank Huis, Rijksmuseum (but make sure all exhibits are open - I went when they were renovating), and checking out the outdoor cafes on Rembrandtplein. Red District was a bit overrated, but go anyway.

The Hotel Prinsenhof is conveniently located on Prisengracht near the corner of Utrectstaat - with loads of good restaurants nearby. The staff were very helpful and the room was clean and comfortable with plenty of character. However, watch out for the shower in the ensuite room - it has a mind of it's own - runnng hot and cold!!! Still, it was great value for the location!!

Stayed here with a friend within the last couple of weeks and there are some really great things about this hotel and some that weren't much fun. Here are my thoughts, for what they're worth...

*They aren't kidding about the stairs. They are *really* steep. Luckily there's a friendly guy who'll help you haul your bags up them, most likely. Their hook hoist is a lot of fun to see, too.

*I didn't think the hotel breakfast was much...just toast and some cold cuts...maybe I came at a bad time. Also it only runs until 10 AM and I slept in one day I was there, so possibly I didn't see the whole spread.

*We got the only room in the hotel with a private bath, I think (room 6)...my friend booked it without asking me, I don't think I'd have minded sharing a bath...because this room is *small*. We had to pile things on top of each other just to get around the bed!

*There were only two electric outlets in the room, and two of them were taken up by lamps, without which the room was pretty dark. This made charging up our phones, computer and whatnot a little difficult.

Now for the upsides...

*The bed was *really* comfortable! I slept like a log the entire time. Also, the hotel was really quiet, which helped since I was up late and needed to sleep in.

*The location is fantastic and is so beautiful you'll think you're in a movie set. There's a cute bar on the corner that also serves light snacks.

*Free (wireless) Internet!! You have to ask to have an account hooked up, but the signal strength is really good.

*Plenty of hot water and the water pressure was good.

*Really friendly, nice folks work here. We liked them a lot.

We'll probably come back, and book one of the larger rooms next time.

I can't recommend this place highly enough (especially for the price!). It's right on the tram line, it overlooks a canal, the service was fantastic. We were on our honeymoon and a room on the top floor - it was a very charming attic room with a slanted ceiling. The room had a lot of character and the bed was very comfortable. We were hoping it would be fairly peaceful and it was - we didn't bump into another traveler the entire time we stayed there. The breakfast was pretty good - hard-boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, toast, coffee, etc. This hotel was in a great location, in easy walking distance from the red light district and the Museumplein. Recommended without any reservations.
