“Great hotel at a great price and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

We stayed here for two nights. Great and friendly staff, nice breakfast and clean rooms. Was a good experience and loved that it was so close to everything. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The train theme was fun!

The A-train hotel is just across from central station, I have stayed here a number of times, at least 4 or 5 and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else to be honest, Amsterdam well is just Amsterdam, you are not going there to wow just the hotel you are going to wow and explore the city, and this is the best place in my eyes to do it. you couldn't be anymore in the centre but just enough out of the way from all the idiots that still lurk the streets at silly times, there are tons of bars and restaurants right on your door step, the breakfast is fare and the staff all work as a team making sure all your needs are met 100% at the end of the day for the price you pay take it from me you will not find a better more comfortable stay that the A-train hotel, I will certainly be staying there again and continue doing so every time I visit this wonderful fascinating city,

5 stars from me guys all the way and thank you for you hospitality it makes a massive difference.

We booked our hotel very late, and had to be happy of what was left. Then we found A-Train and decided to give it a shot and it was great! The rooms were very clean, no bed bugs or other nasty surprises. The service was very good and friendly, especially the service we got from the lovely lady of the breakfast restaurant. We missed the breakfast on our first morning and she actually brought more bread etc to the breakfast table just for us. That really made my day! The guys at the reception were also great and the whole stay was really pleasant. The room was good for two, it was quiet, the beds were comfortable and the location is as good as it gets. The next time I go to Amsterdam, I'm definitely staying here!

We had the pleasure of staying here for our 20th wedding anniversary and I must say what an absolute gem of a hotel. Only a two minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station and, for reference, about 6-7 minute walk from Dam Square. The station also is the main terminus for the tram

We arrived and were warmly welcomed along with being notified that the hotel had upgraded our room as a gesture for our anniversary.

We arrived very early in the day and the room was not ready we were invited to have a (complimentary) coffee in the restaurant after and put our cases in the luggage room before venturing out into the city. Once we were able to get into the room we found it very nice indeed. On the top floor at the front of the hotel, we had a fantastic view of Central Station and the hustle and bustle around it. But, contrary to other reviews I have read, we did not have any issues with traffic noise – maybe because we were four floors up?

The room itself had everything you would need to be comfortable, TV, tea and coffee making facilities and one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on! The bathroom was functional and well laid out. Those who have mentioned the lack of a shower curtain obviously haven’t quite grasped the concept of a ‘wet area’. The shower is tucked around the corner of its alcove and there is a small step down so water doesn’t go beyond the shower boundary - no curtain is needed. We also found an anniversary gift of a presentation box of chocolates and a ‘Dutch’ tile. It is small touched like this that really make a huge difference.

It is clear from the name that the hotel owners are train enthusiasts – there is train related memorabilia from all over the world on display everywhere, from Hornby models attractively displayed to station signs on the wall. The corridor from the reception area to the restaurant even has trains tracks leading through it and there are level crossing barriers that can be lowered across the breakfast area when it’s closed! Even if you are not a train buff, it is still fascinating to look around – you could class it as a small railway museum.

Breakfast is continental style with cooked meats and cheese, bread and cereals and, apparently unusually for Amsterdam, included in the hotel price.

Every member of staff without exception were fantastic. All very helpful and really made sure the stay was everything it could be.

This was our first trip of what we intend to be a tour of European cities for future anniversaries. Hotels in Hamburg, Vienna, Prague and all the others we’ll be visiting be warned, after our stay at the A-Train hotel in Amsterdam, you have a lot to live up to!!

And should we ever revisit Amsterdam as part of that tour, rest assured we’ll be returning to this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 402 - Overlooking Central Station. A fantastic place to sit and watch the world go by below you

Very close to central train station, within 5 mins walking. Perfect location for train or tram travel. simple but satisfying breakfast and very helpful staff, rooms that face the canal can be a bit noisy.

A small hotel, just in front of Central station. As the name suggests, the interior decoration of the lobby is made to simulate a train compartment. The rooms are very small, basic bathroom, just average breakfast & charged Wi-Fi. The only positives would be its location & somewhat friendly staff. The price is expensive for the standard of the hotel. My friends got a cheaper deal with better facilities in nearby hotels during the same time period.
