“Somethng Different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2011

Made booking after seeing reviews on this site. The location is good its close to the main train station and not far from shoping areas. If you want to do a canel cruise the boats are just across the road. We stayed in room 404 on the 4th floor and found it very small compared to other hotels. Was a bit of squeeze with 2 suitcases but managed to sort problem off. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was basic bread cheese jam eggs cereal coffee and tea . If like to eat out would suggest you go to Joshlota a small spanish style restaurant foods is good and cheap (try meat skewer or chicken skewer about E8.50). Turn left from hotel walk down to next cross road turn left til come to cross street is on left across from coffee shop.

All in all the hotel is basic and clean and if looking for cheap accomodation in heart of town is worth visiting. Also walk across road from hotel and look at it you are not seeing things the building is on a lean to the left its part of what they call the drunken buildings.
Also if want to travel around use all day passes for trams can be purchased at main train station.

The A Train Hotel is in a great location if you are cruising into or out of Amsterdam. It is walking distance to the pier and in the heart of the city. Every attraction is in easy reach; however, the rooms are very small and if you have 2 suitcases it is almost impossible to get around them in the room. It was clean and the breakfast was good so overall, it was a decent experience.

My wife and I stayed here recently for our third visit. We took our daughter so booked the 3-bed room, which turned out to be the attic room. The room is actually 2 rooms, a bedroom with 3 single beds up steep windy stairs and a small lounge area with 3 chairs, TV and desk, plus cleverly fitted shower room.
As usual, the room was clean, the staff amazingly friendly and helpful and the hotel peaceful (we must have missed the stag or hen parties).
The location is great, 100 yards from the train station and easy walk to all of the popular areas. Next door is a supermarket, which you can walk right through and out into a shopping area with restaurants, coffeee shops and bars.
The breakfast is basic, bread, cheese, ham, boiled eggs plus some cereal and yoghurt, plus coffee and orange juice.
The main attraction is the train theme, which is obvious in the quirky pullman style booths in the breakfast area - which gives a great private feel! Free internet access is also available in the breakfast area.
All in all, basic, clean, friendly and well worth a visit. we will return again!

Great location near the train station. Just minutes walk from Amasterdam Central and right in the middle many sights in downtown Amsterdam. The owners/receptionists were great in offering help and advice to us as this was our first trip here. The room was very quiet and quaint.

Room Tip: Request the B rooms - they are much quieter as they are at the back of the hotel.

That tune is still humming around in my head! The hotel room was small BUT not as small as some we've had in hotels in cities.

The welcome was warm, the room was clean, neat and the space well organised, breakfast was good. The staff were all very polite, helpful and friendly.

We'd definitely stay there again if we found ourselves back in Amsterdam.

1st time i been to Amsterdam and wanted to stay at most comfortable location. the location was good near to Main station but my room was very very small. smaller then i can imagine. But got 10 to 20% discount coupons and deals from Hotels. Like on canal ride and wind power plant tour pickup is from hotel entrance. Over all it was great experience but because of Amsterdam not because of Atrain.

The rooms was very small!
when we got there - it was full of flying big ants - so we got a new room due to that.
there is a lot of noise - you can hear everything from the other rooms and the street,
the stuff was very nice, good basic breakfast .

in total - not requemeded .

Room Tip: If you decide to stay here - please, do not take the smaller room!!! Higher floor is better.
