“Great find in museum district”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago NEW

Right on the #2 Trolley line at Valerisuplein on Koninginneweg, #93. Not in Centrl Amsterdam, but easy 15-20 min access to center via #2 trolley and Iamsterdam citicard. 1-2 stops from Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum. Beautiful, quiet neighborhood with some nice local restaurants. Lovely, very helpful desk staff, , nice little bar, though crowded with breakfast stuff that should be taken down in the evening, great breakfast and common room, lovely little back garden. Rooms are very clean and well-equipped, but we found the bed hard. Wireless internet, despite advertising and improvement, is iffy. Be warned - no elevator, stairs are steep, curvy, and steps are small and narrow from front to back. Hauling luggage up one or two flights, if your room is on floors one or two, can be a challenge, especially if you are older. But the positives and the price far outweigh the negatives. We would stay there again on another trip

Room Tip: Try to get lowest floor possible

Stayed here for 3 nights and it was lovely! Yeah the steps are steep but it's cute, and although the walk to Dam Square is around 45 minutes it doesn't feel that long at all because the streets and parks are so beautiful!

One thing I would say is look out for bus '197' when at the airport as this takes you to a stop 10 minutes away from the hotel and only costs €5, as apposed to paying €50 for a taxi like we did...

I would definitely stay here again and the staff were so so lovely! Free apples too...

Good Points:
-Clean Room
-Nice check in and welcome area
-good bathroom and shower
-tram stops just down the road to take you into the city
-helpful staff
-free wifi and luggage storage

Bad Points:
- very narrow stairs
- no kettle or bin or cups/water in room
- You have to collect or give your key to reception everytime you leave the hotel
- room smaller than expected and dark, no space for luggage etc
- bed was so hard it was almost like sleeping on a floor!!
- the hotel took 'city tax' which was never shown on my invoice but automatically taken from my bank, not pelased with that but could have been a booking.com problem
-a little expensive for what it was

Room Tip: go for a larger room

My daughter and I stayed here April 22 to the 28th. Super helpful and accomodating staff. They will do whatever they can to help with directions, suggestions and general opinions.

The stairs are a bit steep but that did not bother us, that was part of the charm. If you want the same same stay home!! Stayed during Kings Day celebration and the whole hotel was decked out in balloons!!! What a wonderful stay. Thank you from Canada!!

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony we had room 29. Nice size, nice view apple tree in bloom!!

Can't believe this hotel has gotten good reviews. Were they staying where I was??? I only give it a 2 rating because the staff was nice and there was free wi fi, otherwise a 1!

Haven't slept well for 4 nights due to the talking noise: Walls are so thin I am now multilingual! Housekeeping is "outsourced" I was told when I complained: They pulled up the comforter and didn't even make the bed or straighten the crumpled sheets. There is not even a glass or plastic cup in the room, let alone bottled water. The lighting is so bad you can hardly read. There is no elevator and really narrow, steep stairs. Steep steps: expected. No elevator was not expected. It's a 20 minute walk to the Van Gogh museum, not 10-15. And it is no where near City Center as advertised. The "Business Center" is a single Mac by the front window. I saw no evidence of a "kitchenette". The "shuttle" is a deal they have with a cab company that takes you to the airport for 37€.

Very little as advertised. Very disappointing. Won't stay there again.

Great location in a very upper scale neighborhood that's a fifty meter Walk to tram and Vondelpark! , all you have to do is take the number two tram from central station or take a lovely walk in a very nice neighborhood. Clean and comfortable rooms , loved our stay just wish we coulda stayed longer :)

Where do I start? I suppose firstly, my biggest gripe with this hotel is that this is the first experience I've had where the reality really does not match the photos on the website.

Walls had lots of marks on them. The room was very dark - dark coloured walls with lights that were not very bright, and as we were on the ground floor we often could not have the curtains open. The photos make the rooms like big, bright and airy - this was not the case at all. The street is noisy, especially when the window is open (which we often had to do as there was no ventilation in the room). There wasn't really anywhere to put our bags - the room was so small there was about two feet of space between the end of the bed and the wall (not the big spacious rooms in the photos on the website). It was a long room though, so bags went on the floor by the desk (no wardrobe). Carpet in the corridor looked very old and worn.

Bathroom was good though - cramped but modern and clean, and the shower had good water temperature and pressure. The tap on the sink was a bit loose though - it's one where you push the handle back to turn it on, and the handle kept sinking forward unless you pushed it right back for a high-pressure stream of water. Breakfast cost extra and was not worth the cost.

A plus was that we could print documents for free. It is also in a pretty good location - not right in the city centre but in a nice suburb, right by the park and close to a tram stop. Bit of an expensive suburb though so you are better off getting food in the town centre.

Wifi was not great but was ok. We were in the room closest to reception though, so we should have had excellent wifi. The corridor could also get noisy, probably due to our location right by the entrance.

We did not pay full price (got it as a mystery deal on Expedia) so we still got reasonable value but I would be unhappy if I had paid full price for what we got.
