“Bleached”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012 via mobile

Stayed at this Hotel for 2 nights ,
It was a big of a disaster .. This is what happened
We booked it with hotels.com
When we arrived at the hotel the check in staff did not / would not acknowledge our booking even though we had the electronic booking confirmation right in front of him .
He leg us stay at the hotel but charged us more that what we locked in with hotels.com,
It was not that much more but it pissed me off, particularly because they made us wait for ages to get into the room / it was 9 at night so we were looking forward to getting into bed
When we finally got into the room it smelt soooooooo strongly of bleach!!!! Initially this pleased me as I like clean,
The next day though our clothes were stained by the bleached they had left on the floor, ( yes I should not have put my clothes on thd floor when showering)
My theory now with hand stuff around check in is the room was not ready anx they were quickly cleaning it,
We wouldn't have minded if they had of just said leave your bags here and cons back in an hour,
It's Amsterdam. Plenty to do
Overall it was not bad except we list a pair of trousers ANd a t shirt

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

I stayed at this hotel for one night in July 2012 and I have to say it was an average place to stay. Our room was very spacious however we noticed many cracks on the wall and a crack and flaking wallpaper on the ceiling this I assume to be the damp that was clearly visable through the wallpaper. Also their was an awful smell in the room everytime we opened the window which we had to do as their was no air conditioning. It was very difficult to get to sleep due to the noise.

Very good location. Got there at 11.30 am and was told room ready. In the basement and was not the best place to be.Very basic and dark. Clean though and warm if you switched the radiators on. Boiling hot water. Should have requested another room. Especially when we checked out and was asked "Oh so you were ok in that room? Most people dont like it!"Imagine in the summer the basement rooms would be noisy and hot. 50 euro per person deposit was unexpected and by the time we had discussed between ourselves that we would leave a credit card number the receptionist had filled out a form for cash which she didnt want to change!Breakfast hard boiled egg (hot though) warmed roll and a plate of cheese and meats. Some sliced bread, orange juice and tea or coffee. 2 types of cereal. If I had not got this "free" with avios points I would have been upset!

Room Tip: NO ROOM 109 (basement)

Very good experience I have had. The hotel is very quiet and the staff has been very friendly and helpful.

The conditions are good, however I would suggest to place a kettle in each room to allow the customers to make their own herbal, relaxing tea to unwind after an excessive walking.

Also, the location is perfect especially for someone who comes from such a noisy place like London. The hotel is in a very lovely residential area and at the same time very close (walking distance) to the centre and tourists' attractions, eg dimonds museum.

I visited Amsterdam in the month of march and stayed in hotel sander for 2 nights. It is the usually recommended hotel by Indian travel agents.

However i found the hotel to be very basic with extremely small rooms, TV not working, the most basic breakfast spread i found in my stay across Europe. The staff is courteous and willing to guide tourists. It is a little light on your pocket and hence may make sense. Located near a tram station and travel within Amsterdam city is very convenient. Not recommended for those looking for a relatively lavish stay.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

I had booked a three-star hotel room and got a shabby and! tiny room worthy of a maximum of one star. The hotel is not too far away from the center of Amsterdam and is staffed by attentive personnel, which are probably the two good things I can say about this place.

The room provided by the attentive staff was on the backside; the carpet had stains in it. The room was barely big enough for the bed and in-room! sink; the bathroom sported a shower and a toilet bowl, which must have been put in by an an enthusiastic, but nonetheless amateur plumber. It simply did not look very professional.

The hotel does not provide parking, even though outside the hotel there are two signs, boasting that the hotel is recommended by auto clubs in Switzerland and Germany. Parking around the hotel costs about €4 per hour. The staff pointed out that parking can be had at the reasonable price of €8 per 24 hours at the Olympic Stadium about 2km off.

If all that was not enough, I was really taken aback by the fact that credit-card payments cost extra! The hotel slaps another 4% on top if you have the nerve to pay by credit card! I could have survived one night with a room which had its best days twenty years ago and parking that was a brisk twenty-minute walk away, but the extra payment for the credit card was too much.
