We stayed in the quadruple room at Hotel Zandburgen for two nights. It was clean and adequate for the four of us with a nice patio off the back. While a bit expensive for the caliber of room, there seemed to be few options for a family with children in the city. The staff at the hotel was great, helping us get to know our way around the city, making bookings and suggestions of things to do, and providing a hearty breakfast to start each morning. The location is great as well, in the heart of the city, within walking distance of most major attractions. The hotel also has a computer in the lobby with Internet access that they let us use free of charge.

Indeed all of them were precise.
The hotel is in a quiet neighborhood that gives a safe feeling walking there. It's located 10 mins walking from Museumplein, but also tram number 2 is very close to the hotel.
The hotel staff and the manager Henk are extremely friendly , patient and kind to guests. Perhaps the most friendly hotel staff I have ever seen.
The stairs are indeed a bit tough to climb, however Henk is aware of that and helped with the luggage both for checkin and checkout.
The room was relatively small, however very clean, and the bathroom looked like recently renovated and was clean as well.
The breakfast was basic but good - cornflakes, cheese, bread, fruits, coffee, tea.
The hotel has a computer in the lobby, and also free wireless in rooms.
The price is a bargain, and I would definitely stay there again.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel in March for a weekend leisure visit to Amsterdam. The hotel itself is in a quiet suburb of Amsterdam that is very easy to reach by tram from the centre of town. Henk, the owner, gave us a very warm welcome and even offered advice on what to drink to my friend after he had drunk too much alcohol.
We each had a single room and the plus side, the free wifi is a real bonus and the flat screen television seemed to have a great choice of channels. You also get a well stocked and reasonably priced mini-bar with the first drink being on the house. The rooms themselves are very small though, barely enough room to spin around (but I didn't see the double rooms so couldn't comment on those - I am just referring to the single rooms).
Breakfast was excellent with all the bits you would expect to find in a continental style breakfast. Overall, other than the small rooms, this hotel is excellent and I will return when I am next in Amsterdam. A special note should be made about Henk who is, in all my years of travelling, the best host I have ever met.

My wife and daughter and I stayed for three nights in March 2009. I have stayed at this small hotel on several occasions over the years. The previous owners/managers (Robert and Margaret) were most gracious, and it is a relief that the present owner/manager Henk is continuing their high standards. The hotel is in a perfect location, being far enough from the centre to be peaceful (adjacent Vondelpark), and yet near enough for convenience. The tram 2 stops almost outside the door (stop: Emmastraat), and there is one every 8 minutes or so. The hotel is spotlessly clean (something we are very keen on), and the staff are most friendly and helpful. There is a steepish stairs, but you are in Amsterdam and you will find them everywhere! Breakfast (07.30 - 10.00) is perfectly adequate. Mini bar in room, and they also have fairly decent and reasonably priced bottles of wine available if you feel inclined. Some of the rooms (called Superior rooms) are worth the extra space and may have a terrace outside with table and chairs. This hotel is resonably priced considering the location, standard, friendliness and cleanliness. Enjoy!
