“Excellent location and excellent service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2009

My wife and daughter and I stayed for three nights in March 2009. I have stayed at this small hotel on several occasions over the years. The previous owners/managers (Robert and Margaret) were most gracious, and it is a relief that the present owner/manager Henk is continuing their high standards. The hotel is in a perfect location, being far enough from the centre to be peaceful (adjacent Vondelpark), and yet near enough for convenience. The tram 2 stops almost outside the door (stop: Emmastraat), and there is one every 8 minutes or so. The hotel is spotlessly clean (something we are very keen on), and the staff are most friendly and helpful. There is a steepish stairs, but you are in Amsterdam and you will find them everywhere! Breakfast (07.30 - 10.00) is perfectly adequate. Mini bar in room, and they also have fairly decent and reasonably priced bottles of wine available if you feel inclined. Some of the rooms (called Superior rooms) are worth the extra space and may have a terrace outside with table and chairs. This hotel is resonably priced considering the location, standard, friendliness and cleanliness. Enjoy!

My wife and I stayed at this Hotel for 1 night in February. We stayed at this hotel and the reason for my visit was to visit Amsterdam before we caught a flight back to the UK. The Hotel was easy to get to on the Tram from Central Station. We’d stayed at other hotels in Holland on the previous 2 nights. The price was expensive compared to other parts of Holland. But Amsterdam does appear quite expensive for accomodation. The Hotel staff were really friendly and made you welcome. The hotel and room was very clean and tidy albeit on the small side. If you’re disabled or have difficulty getting up stairs then this place is not for you. There is a spiral staircase which can be a challenge if you’re not fit. The breakfast was good and the choice of food was reasonable. We would recommend the hotel to other people especially as the staff were so helpful.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Zandbergen from 24-2-2009 to 4-3-2009. We had and excellent time, and Henk the owner is a wonderful and gracious host. It has the feel of a 5 star hotel. While we were there we experienced a death in the family, and Henk and his staff bent over backward to ensure that we were still happy. We will be returning in June and plan to stay again. So to anyone who is lookng for a great place to stay, I would highly recommend this hotel. We stayed in the penthouse, which was an amazing place to come back to after a long day. Again I'd like to say that Henk is the best, and was sent to us by an angel. Richard Caron and Virginia Sullivan US

We stayed in Hotel Zandbergen for a week end. A family with 3 little children. The hotel is located in a quite area with a tram stop right beside it so very easy to get to the centre. Henk the manager and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. the Kids got all sorts of suprises that really made a difference. We stayed in the Penthouse after we were upgraded from the Apartment we reserved. Excellent big place with enough space for all of us - very unique for a city hotel. big TV screen with Extra DVD movies for you to enjoy. nice kitchen. very comfortable for a familly with kids. also free internet.

We just spent 2 nights at the Hotel Zandbergen and I must say that for its price, it is money well spent.
The location of the hotel is very good, a calmer part of amsterdam, right next to the vondel park, and with a tramstop (tram line 2) at 50m, going directly to the central station passing the centre of the city.

The hotel staff adviced me to park the car at the Olympic stadium P+R, and what a very good deal that was! €15.20 for 3 days and with 2 free tickets for the tram for everyone (max 5 per car). There is also a possibility to have a bike instead of the tram tickets, but unfortunately all the bicycles were gone.
Be aware that to get the discount P+R fee of €6/day, you HAVE to use the tram tickets, else they will charge you at €2/h

We stayed in room 18 which was at the back of the hotel on the 2nd floor, so very quiet. The room had a nice flat-screen, a twin bed with a 2-person mattress. The bathroom has a tiny bath (1m), which can only be used as a shower or for a child, a sink, a toilet and a blowdryer.

The staircase is very steep, so getting to the 2nd floor with luggage can be a bit hard, but Henk will help you deal with it.

Because it was very cold this weekend, we had some troubles keeping the room at the right temperature. We had turned the heating down too much the first night and since I don't think the windows are fitted with double glass, the temp dropped like hell.

Breakfast was ok, everything was fresh, there were some croissants, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, milk, yoghurt, orange juice, coffee, tea, cheese, ham, bread, ...

The hotel also sells tickets for some museums, like the Van Gogh, which let you enter the museum without having to queue!

So as a conclusion I can say that this hotel is wel worth it's three stars based on its infrastructure, where location and service should give it even a higher rating!

We stayed at the Hotel Zandbergen along with another couple for two nights and found it to be excellent. Henk D. de Lugt, the owner and manager, along with all the staff were great. They helped with dining recommendations and reservations and made suggestions for activities that we never would have known about. As we were there on a Wednesday, Henk suggested that we might enjoy going to the noon open rehearsal at the Cencertgebouw (the Amsterdam Concert Hall). We went and it was outstanding – a high point of our visit. The rooms are small but they were comfortable and spotless. The hotel is located within walking distance of the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum and it is on a major tram line so it is very convenient for reaching any part of the city. An excellent choice.

I stayed at the Hotel Zandbergen in Amsterdam for 5 days with my wife and 2 children and it was perfect. We stayed in the Penthouse; very roomy, very pleasant, nice furniture and kid friendly. The steep steps getting to the room were not a problem for us but might be if you're past a certain age or size.
The hotel was the perfect size between a B&B and a hotel. Breakfast every morning was very nice and the right start to the day.
The staff was extremely accommodating. It was all good.
