“Good Hotel, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

Hotel Zandbergen is a typical European 2 star hotel. My room was very small and dated, although clean. I had a room on the 2nd floor in the front, so street noise was a big problem during the day, but it was not an issue in the evening when trying to sleep. The breakfast buffet was basic with no hot items.

The hotel has a great location, away from the crowds in the city center but conveniently located a half block form the #2 tram. I really like the neighborhood area, which is charmingly residential with lots of nice restaurants, bars and shops. The staff is very nice and attentive. Wifi reception in the room was available 100% of the time, although I would occasionally experience some slowdowns. For the price I paid, the hotel is a good value compared to other hotels in the area.

Very basic.
Served its purpose of being a clean, warm, safe place with easy access to public transportation (Tram #2). A fifteen to 20 minute walk to the Van Gogh Museum, and across the street from a very nice park (which we did not visit - too cold and rainy). By all appearances it is in a nice area of Amsterdam. However, not the hotel for those in search of luxury. Not the hotel for those with cardiac conditions or who may be out of shape, either. After a steep trek up two winding staircases carrying heavy luggage, we were placed in a very small room, with plastic bedside tables and virtually no amenities. Breakfast was basic, as well.
As mentioned in other reviews, the staff was helpful and courteous.

Room Tip: If you cannot walk up two steep flights carrying 20lb or more, then find a different hotel.

Just returned from a short break in Amsterdam, staying in Hotel Zandbergen. We couldn’t fault how friendly Henk and his staff were, providing us with numerous tips and advice on the best bits of Amsterdam. Good tip is to rent the museum card of Henk for 20 Euro and get into all the museums for free thereafter. Not only does this allow you to save a lot of money it also means you can skip the queues and go straight in.

Good points: the hotel is only 15 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes walk to the various museums including the Van Gough Museum. We basically walked everywhere although there is a tram stop right outside the hotel. The hotel is also very close to some lovely restaurants and cafes.

Not so good points: we stayed in the garden room on the ground floor and although clean, was very small and could do with modernisation as furniture and decoration looks pretty tired. The room was very noisy as its below the reception so you could hear a lot of stomping around upstairs.

Although there was nothing majorly wrong with the hotel and staff very friendly i do wonder if we could have got somewhere closer to the centre that was a bit more modern for less money and so probably won’t return in future.

Room Tip: Get a room on one of the upper floors.

This is a very nice hotel with excellent staff. Room and bathroom were a little smallish, but not a problem. We had a room in the back, so we had no issues with street noise. Breakfasts were above average. Henk and his staff are all very helpful, warm and courteous. Hotel is located right next to the tram stop, so it is very conveniently located. The neighborhood is mostly residential and very nice. Major museums are walking distance if you don't mind a nice walk. Thought the price was a little on the high side, although this is a major city so I do not know if we could have done better.

We've stayed at the Zandbergen for years. Henk took over a few years back & continued the high standard of personal service set by the previous owners. All the staff seem to really care about the guests & this is what makes this a great place to stay. The rooms may be small by international standards but this is not unusualfor Amsterdam. The rooms are well equipped & spotless.
The Zandbergen is on a quiet street with a stop for the no. 2 tram near by, this gives easy access to all that Amsterdam has to offer. In the imediate area is the Vondal Park & loads of excelent place to eat.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 3 days in October and our only complaint was that our visit was too short! Hotel's staff is exemplary and the location is perfect. The hotel is within walking distance from Museumplein and Vondelpark, on a quiet street, with Tram 2 stop nearby to take you to the City's Center in just minutes. The staff is very friendly and helpful, whether serving delicious breakfast, helping with directions, dinner reservations or printing our boarding passes. So, if you visit Amsterdam, stay at Zandbergen, I sure will when I return to this wonderful city.

We just spent 6 days here and , after combing the city, agreed that we would not have wanted to stay in any other area. The hotel itself was perfect for our needs and Henk sets a brilliant standard for service and care.
We were in a small room, downstairs in the back, which opened onto a garden and was very quiet and comfortable. Any requests were quickly and cheerfully accommodated. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee is really good ( a must for me!) If I return to Amsterdam I would want to stay here again. There is an excellent small cafe just half a block away and many more restaurants within 10 minutes walk. And the tram stop is extremely convenient. We arrived by train and took the tram directly from Centraal Station to the hotel.
